Another 10/22 Build Thread - Picture Heavy

Well the build bug bit again and I thought that this time I'd document it as a went along.


This is where I started, just a basic 10/22 that I bought from a friend who wasn't shooting it:

After disassembly, it looked something like this:

and I sold off the stock, barrel and trigger.


Next I had to assemble the build parts:

which consisted of:


10/22 receiver, bolt;
Kidd 2 stage trigger;
Green Mountain 20" Target chamber;
Foulton Armoury free float tube;
Tubb target grip;
JP Enterprises sight block;
Anschutz sights;
Buffer tube;
Nordic Chassis;
Ergo buttpad; and
various pieces of aluminum.

What pull weight is your Kidd trigger set at? I have one in a current build set at 3 ounces and 3 ounces. You'll enjoy it. I still have 3 more new ones for future builds.

It was one I already had on another build, but I replaced it on that build with a Kidd single stage, which I got from either DLASK or FABSPORTS I don't remember which.

For this build just the reciever, bolt, bolt handle, and yes the pins. LOL.

So to continue the story, the various aluminum bits had to be machined into some of the missing pieces that I needed like this:

when i did my recent build i coudlnt find a 2-stage anywhere. thats why my next build im just ordering right from kidd and having it imported.

Next it was time to start assemble the Green Mountain barrel and nordic chassis:

Once assembled I needed to make up some adapters to mount sights:

Off to eBay I went and bought some 22mm (picatinny / weaver) to 11mm (dovetail) adapters of course these were direct from China and the dove tail wasn't to spec nor centred. I machined off both of the dovetails and made one to suit for the rear:

and one for the front with an integral riser to align the front and rear sights:

Thanks wayup, that was actually my plan originally. I probably should have added that I haven't felt the need the 8/8 is pretty darn light as it is, I'm not sure that I'd want to go much lighter now, LOL.

The Kidd product seems so challenging to buy in Canada with any sort of selection, I'm always looking to see if anyone else is starting to bring them in, or will special order.

Once I had the sights mounted it was time for a dry run at the range:

I was a bit concerned about the height of my front sight block since I didn't put much work into calculating the right hight for the block, and simply machined it to the roughly the same height as the rear dovetail give or take. this first trip was really to ensure that everything was going to function and that the sight block was close enough.


I put about 20 rounds of SK Standard plus thru it to check for function and rough sight alignment. It was shooting approximately 3" high and slightly to the left, but I ended up have enough travel in the rear sight to get it close enough to know that I wouldn't have to re-machine the front sight block. All shooting was done from the prone position with no sling or rest at 20y on a standard match rifle target.


These were my last four shots of the day

Since I needed to disassemble the gun to paint the various parts I didn't worry about dialling it in any closer, since I was going to need to sight it in again once it was re-assembled.
