I`m thinking of getting a new 223 rifle and while looking online, I stumbled upon the Ruger American Rifle Compact. What are your thoughts on the Ruger for accuracy and reliablity?
I like a short rifle and was thinking about the Savage Hog Hunter but they seem hard to find. May use it for the odd coyote but mostly plinking at the range. Also wondering what else is out there in a short barrel bolt action 223 with a detachable mag.

The Ruger compact should perform well in .223 for the uses you describe. If the bugger has a 1 in 9" twist,
you can poke out bullets from 55-77gr. with decent accuracy. Ruger Americans have good reviews and seem
like a neat rifle for most hunting/plinking situations....they look good to boot.:)

I have the American in 30-06. No complaints from my end. You get what you pay for. It's not a Sako but it goes boom all the same. Accurate right out of the box. Put a semi-decent piece of glass on it and away ya go.
