Another alberta ram hits the shale.

so a little run down of the hunt, we left 4 days before the season opened and spent the first day bush whacking up to the treeline. On the second day we took off in 3 different directions to scout effectivley. when we came back to camp that night we had all found rams that day. 4 full curls and about 8 or 9 other legal rams. on opening morning we took off for the far basin at 2am, and got there around 8am. We waited for the rams to work up the chute in our direction. at about 9am 5 rams where within 150 yards below us in a saddle. Ken picked out the biggest and shot the living hell out of it with his 300 win mag. He hit it 5 times little bit high but all within a 5 inch circle. finally the ram died and we walked over to claim him and started the two day gruelling treck out of there. Turns out he was shooting 190gr match kings and they where blowing up on the hide and bone before hitting vitals. Worst bullet failure ive ever seen, although its not a hunting bullet either. He got a good lesson up there about shooting appropriate bullets when hunting.

I'm frankly blown away experienced hunters are loading paper punching bullets like Match Kings. That's unfortunate for everybody, especially the ram, he's lucky the ram didn't take off and die a day later.

Yep, I would of taught him a lesson as well and kicked his arse for allowing that animal to suffer. One well placed shot with a well made constructed bullet is all it would of taken.
