I went to my local dealer this week and finally plunked down some money to buy my first pistol in 16 years :dancingbanana:. It's just a Ruger MK III Standard .22LR with 4.75" barrel, but I'm super excited to get out there and do some shooting again. I've been thinking of buying a new handgun for months now, but never pulled the trigger wondering what to buy. 9mm, .22, .45??? Glock, SAM, Ruger, etc etc etc. I finally decided it would be a .22 to start so I could afford to shoot a fair bit and get my skills back up. Then last weekend a friend I shoot skeet with invited me out to shoot some pistols. He had a Colt Woodsman, Browning Challenger and a Glock 17. All of them were fun and I managed to make some decent groups on paper. Considering I hadn't touched a pistol in 16 years. That really lit the fire and I checked my dealers website and a lightly used MK III for a smoking price was on there waiting for me. Now waiting for the transfer and all that hoop jumping to be done so I can go plink some cans.

I can't think of any practical reason to buy any other 22 pistol. I have a 22/45 and it's accurate at 50 yards, eats any ammo, functions flawlessly every time. Probably 3000 through it and still going strong. The ONLY other semi .22 pistol I would consider buying is a mk III.

Nice—a Mk 2 was the very first gun I owned. I had it for years and never had any issue with it. I'm sure that you'll love it!

I fired a MK I or MK II years ago and remember really liking it. Everyone I've talked with said the same thing. "Best .22 you can get. Eats all ammo well. More accurate than you are." I've checked out some youtube videos on disassembly and it doesn't look nearly as hard as some make it out to be. I'm going to have some fun soon.

I have 3 .22 pistols and my MK III is EASILY my fave and even one of my fave pistols of my entire pistol collection. Mine has a red dot on it and it keeps me on target really well.

I will say this about these Rugers, they arent the easiest to break down for cleaning, but they dont need to be cleaned all the time like some other more finiky pistols do. I ALWAYS go to the same video for break down to make sure I dont miss anything, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAQ5RR27cnU

I've owned 3 MKIII's and the 4.75" Standard model is my fav! Love the Iconic looks of Ruger's classic 22lr HG.
Get the mag disconnect bushing (Sam's) and it will make take-down easier…..

been shooting .45 for the past 2 years, now waiting for delivery of 9mm. can't say that I'll ever buy a .22 handgun. even my .22 rifles are win mag and .223 ar-15.
