Another coyote hunting lesson learned

I shot one running at about 100 yards the other day and saw him tumble. Went to my vehicle to get a different pair of gloves and a rope and started towards him and he got up and ran off. I took a couple more cracks at him but didn't connect. He ran out to about 400 yards and turned around at stared at me for a while and loped off. Maybe I creased his skull or something?

Nice hunt:)

My partner and I went out last Saturday. First set we saw a dog coming in after 20 minutes or so. Took him another twenty to get to us.Pretty sure my bullet blew up on impact. 40gr partition at over 4000 fps.(switched to 55grainers now)

Second set brought a dog in about 5 minutes----patner nailed him with 204

third set brought a nice dog fox after about a half hour-no shot---busted us

three more sets brought nothing but sure was a good day out there.

In total that day we saw 4 foxes (got 2) and 4 coyotes (got 1). Sure made the rest of them run.:dancingbanana:

Well, do you like how they come in on a string when they see that fuzzy little bastard or what ??
It is pretty impressive.
Next time, let the coyote go right up to it before stopping him and watch the reaction. Its kinda like ......"Uh Oh! I think Ive had it"!!!
This guy made some really funny movements when he got to within 25 feet of the decoy.ie. turned sideways and thought about heading back to where he had come from, but no wait I think I can eat that thing, cocked his head sideways a time or two, etc.I had watched long enough and launched a 95grain 6.5mm V-max.

BTW,Yes I know exactly what you mean by waiting that extra little while longer.
I went out a week ago Sunday and was about to leave a stand that I had been on for 45 minutes or so when I caught movement about 450 yds away in a swampy area south of me.I called a bit more and they circled to my left (2 coyotes) into the cedars and then reappeared in another opening closer,(now they were about 360yds away) I thought about shooting but figured they would continue left into the woods and re-appear even closer still(next opening was about 150-200 yds away)Well they never showed and I waited another half hour.I figure they winded me at some point in the woods .????
Anyway, yes ,a good lesson learned.

Boney, you should emphasize for our Western brethren that this picture of yours was taken last week.............and that we have no winters here in the east at all any more........

I cant seem to buy a coyote lately and I believe its this goofy weather that is the cause of it.
It finally snowed today but it will probably be raining come the weekend.
The planet is burnin up!!
