Another CZ858 lemon????

Ok guy, I was looking at the entire thread and decided to take a look at my brand new unfired CZ858 N-Res.
The lower handguard is loose, there is a play of about 2mm back and forth...
Top handguard is loose too but from side to side...

Is that normal ???

Shouldnt make a world of a difference if there is a metal retainging clip for the rear of the lower H/G. None of mine have them and they are all fine. As for the top H/G just bend the two front tabs that slide into the gas block a bit and it will help stop the wiggle.

To r.fallon,

Best thing to do is call Wolverine or CRAFM and get them to warranty it. If you are having serious problems with the rifle, best to leave it alone and let a proper gunsmith work on it.

I'm sorry to kinda hijack the thread r.fallon but we have almost the same problem...

Hi ben... does your lower handguard have a metal piece on the rear, between the handguard and the receiver?

Honestly I dunno but I bet you will tell me...

On the pictures provided abouve. I see 2 issues.
The lower hand guard the retaining pin is pouched and the upper hand guard was design to have a little play. This is because not only for the rifle's relability but also because none of these rifes production facilities had computers creating them but this my be hard for people now days to reliaze but infact these we made by people. Hence the tolerances can be extreme. But now you know about the reasons why this slop is occuring the real question is how to fix it. Yes you can bend it and yes I have even seen people use pop shims to correct it. But I personaly if it was causing cycling issues would replace it with one that works.

Mine work fine when I have bent the tabs.

Pop shims to correct what issue????

Why is the retaining roll pin for the lower h/g pooched?????? Looks like all my other ones.

Is your lower without the pin able to slide back any more? or is it hanging up and that's as far back as it goes?

If it's the first prob just make a U shaped wire and place it in the front lower bracket to eat up a little space and give you a nice tight fit.

Or if the lower is stuck and cant slide back, your going to have to take some time and shape it to fit better. Also might have to add a peice of wire to the front after.

Mine lower hand grip was loose as well on my cz 858..it drove me nuts till i jammed it up with a toothpick.. i am going to look inyo a fab kit for it later anyway so i wasny overly concerned with the play..

What about the loose lower handguard on my CZ ???
K like I said the retainer pin needs to be replaced. Also when you remove the lower hand guard. Look at the front piece that is dangeling from the gas block that you are placing the front of your lower handguard into. Give it a few taps with the rubber mallet on both sides the same amount of times with the hand guard removed. Shouldn't take more than a couple of wacks. PM me with your mailing address and I will ship you out a new roll pin or head down to the local hardware store and get a new one.

The fab kit will not correct this issue but instead amplifiy it. You will see when you buy it.
Remeber that these rifles are all made up from surplus old parts laying around from the old czechoslavkia days. The only reason why were are getting any is because they were going to start to update there army with new rifle systems. Although after afaganistan they have since put a hold on phasing out this rifle line up from there small arms inventory.

Thanks that is good info to know..actually makes me question the kit purchase now...i wonder if the pin on mine is where thw play is as well..i will have to do some investagating...

I bought a fab kit and and really was not happy with it (loose) and no side rails on the lower. I also bought one of the Wolverine CZ arsenal $75 kit and it is tough as nails, I had to sand it down to make the lower fit. It's also a pressure fit system with a spring action to keep force on the pin.

The kit's ugly but really tough Mil issue and I really love the pistol grip just a little bigger than stock but the fit and new curves are light years ahead.

Nea upper with the CZ Arsenal lower with a Fenix ALG-01 mount and TK15 light with a FAB TAL 4 vert grip works great so far for me.

Really want a BT set.

Oh shat forgot the upper with the CZ kit is junk, really just for looks.
