While I wait for Canada Post's snail to walk my RPAL application to NB, I've been checking out guns; online and in store. I want my first one to fit me, as glove-like as possible. A problem I've run into is that most rifles have a length of pull that makes handling it awkward. Even the youth oriented ones. The Ruger Scout is a great fit with the spacers taken out, but I'm wondering if there's anything else out there? I'm looking for bolt action, wood or laminated stock, open to caliber suggestions (will be used for hunting larger game), my length of pull is around 12".

I also have a short length of pull . The guns that fit me right out of the box were : Ruger 10/22 , Henry lever in 17hmr , all full size Cooeys , CZ 858 ( unobtanium at the moment ) , SKSs .
Best way to find out is a trip to your nearest gunstore to shoulder a few .
Have fun !

Assuming you're already full grown and have actually measured yourself for LOP. (Yard stick, no metrics, US manufacturers don't use it, into your bent elbow and grasp it like you would a rifle. Where your trigger finger comes to on the stick is your LOP.) Cutting a wood stock to your LOP is not a big deal. Use a mitre saw/box and a fine saw blade. Cut to allow for the butt plate. Remember that you'll be wearing a coat as well. Isn't a bad thing to cut for a recoil pad at the same time. Recoil pads aren't always about felt recoil.
Laminates are usually wood and are cut the same way. Think plywood. Synthetics aren't horribly different, but you need a different blade and a different feed rate.
If you don't want to cut a stock, you may want to look into a lever action. LOP's tend to be a bit shorter.
The whole 'scout' concept is silly. One of Jeff Coopers more stupid ideas. Ruger's M77 Frontier and Compact have a 12.5" LOP. Ditto for the Savage Axis Youth. The Ruger "Scout" starts 1/4" longer than that.

I was figuring my LOP based on the rifle's I've shouldered recently. Shortest LOP on one I found was 12.5"; I just measured mine at 11.75" and yes I am a full grown small person :( I found the Benelli R1 felt near perfect, would just hate to cut down the stock. I'll consider doing that before looking at lever action.
