The charge holes do appear to be about .44 and although it's hard to tell, the trigger guard is brass.

There is a youtube series on a found .45ACP 1911 presumed to a throw down by a Depression era moonshiner. The finder progressively used reverse electrolysis to get more and more crud off until he could cycle the parts an get the hammer to drop.

It's an antique, so it's good to go. Placing it in resin might be a good option to consider.

I have an old hinge break 12 gauge buried in the ground that I want that look with, but no where close, just rust spots and has been in there for three years. Going to try an acid dip this time to speed things up in the rusting department. Nice find
