Another G36C build

Yeah, they are heavy, though I prefer to think of it as sturdy. :)

The long HG will make yours unique for sure. I think for the HK part, you'll end up paying close to that or more for an airsoft version. I know for sure there is a 6-hole airsoft HG out there, just don't know of a retailer.

Not sure how much lighter or less cumbersome removing the rails is going to make it. What about alloy forend, something like this?

I was going for the longer hand guard because I’ve got a longish 18in barrel anyway, and not likely going to go shorter. I’ll snoop around and see if I can find one locally, and hope it won’t be more than $40, otherwise, I’ll just keep my current set up.

I noticed that the 6-hole G36 hand guard isn’t drilled for rails so I’d probably just leave it as a clean look. The railed hand guard you got pictured there does look pretty cool, but I think I’m starting to get a little railed-out. My AR is covered with rails, so I think I’ll just go for a plain and simple look on this one.

Thanks for the tips though, love your build and hope to see more. I know there are a few 10/22 G36s here on CGN, too bad there wasn’t a dedicated thread for 10/22s in Archangel kits.

I’m thinking about going the other way, going long instead of short. It’s a nice stock, but it’s heavier than hell and cumbersome with the barrel I’ve got on there.

A 10/22 has no business being heavier than my AR. It’s a nice rifle, and I’m happy with the way she shoots so I’m thinking about taking some of the tacticool stuff off it (rails, fore grip and flashlight), and get the longer 6-hole SL8 style forend for it. Anyone know where to get one locally? Would an airsoft version fit? Midwayusa has original HK forends for $40, but I suspect it’s an ITAR item and I won’t be able to bring it back. (don’t ask me why their picture is upside down).

Midwayusa will not ship outside the states. There is a guy who btt's an add on the EE which has the 6 slot SL8 forend your looking for.

Thanks for the heads up on EE, I'll check it out. I know midwayusa won't ship outside of the USA, which sucks because they have such a nice inventory of toys, haha! I've purchased more than a few non-ITAR items from them though and just have it sent to a PO BOX just across the border for pickup. I suppose this would be considered tactical and not cool for export so I won't bother with getting it from them.

I have *heard* the RIA receiver does not accept Ruger (etc) 10/22 bbls. So if you were wanting to make a G36C, ie shorty bbl, there might be an issue.

I watched a few of the assembly videos today, the stepped rib doesn't appear to be the only issue, the flash hider and mock suppressor require the Ruger front sight base, the RIA has a different front sight.
Not sure about barrel compatibility, but if they aren't, then what's the point of the RIA's existence.

Sorry for reviving this thread, but I just got a reply from Promag about the RIA 10/22 in the Archangel Nomad stock

"Hello

Unfortunately the Rock Island Armory/Armscor 10/22 clone is a little different from the standard 10/22, and will not fit your firearm. If you need anything else let us know.

Thank You

ProMag Staff"

So no go for RIA.

Haha, I think there was a bit of a discussion on exactly that very topic.....a 10/22 clone that isn't exactly a clone.
