Again, my father give me a lot of reloading NOS : this one question is for 12ga red ACTIV shell. i got about 500 of them brand new. They are all plastic! The problem is that i can't find any data for them on the net. He also give me about 2000 CIL CANDUCK shells that looks very good but no DATA too.

Someone know these brand of shotgun shell?

Thanks again!

Mick

I'll bite..

What is "NOS" and red "ACTIV" shell? If they are "all plastic" I don't think you will be reloading them.

As for the "CANDUCK" shells, I will assume the are "CANUCK" brand. Also, you will not likely find much data for reloading those.

Shotgun shells are quite sensitive to the combination of components. I do not know where you are located, but if you can visit the local trap range and scrounge around you may be able to find a some Winchester AA hulls, or Federal Gold Medal, or ???. Most load data will be for high quality trap hulls, though there are a few exceptions. Just a thought.

The active ones are re-loadable and hold a crimp really well from what I have read. Never tried it though. They are not all plastic. There is a steel disk under the plastic in the rim. At least the ones I cut apart were like that.

Mick,
PM me your email address and I'll scan the reloading data that came with my Activ hulls and send it to you.

Oops, sorry, told the wrong person to PM me.

The active shells are great for reloading. I use to use them exclusively for lead duck loads. They held a good crimp, all plastic construction means no problems if the empties get wet, the dry quickly and no discolored brass. The fed real slick no brass to catch on anything. I may have a couple bags of wads somewhere, but regular wads work too. They were a little pricy but worth it in my opinion.

I used to reload Activ for my 20 gauge. They did crimp nicely. I have an old Lyman 2nd edition Shotshell handbook that lists quite a few loads from 1 to 1 1/8 for the Canuck hulls. I used them a lot before I obtained a whack of AAs and Gold medal hulls.

The Hodgdon # 26 data manual as data for ACTIV 2 3/4" hulls .I haven't seen ACTIV hulls in years.they were the best salt water hunting shell i have ever used.

I bought a case of them in the States 30 years ago (paid $45.00/500). I still have 2 boxes of them that I haven't shot yet. I've reloaded some of the hulls 5 or 6 times and they're holding up very well.

I have a bunch of old manuals 'cuz I'm a hull scrounger and saver.

Lyman's old 3rd ed. manual 1984 lists many loads for Canuck shells. They are straight walled hulls so use wads for that type of hull for best results, such as Federals, not tapered wads like the Winchester target wads.

Canuck:
22gr. Alliant Green Dot, cci 209 primer, Fed 12S3 wad, 1-1/8 oz lead shot, for 1200 fps & 7,700 LUP (nice light target load)
there are many other loads for different powders/wads, heavier loads hunting etc. also listed.

Lyman's 4th edition 1995 lists many loads for the Activ Hull:

Activ:
21.5 Green dot, Fed 209A, Fed 12S3 wad, 1-1/8 oz lead shot, for 1221 fps & 10,600 PSI (light field or heavy target load)

hope that helps!

I have old data for them, they were a very spacious hull, that req'd. a generous wad, and powder charge to attain the same velocities but it was a great hull for reloading. Active had their own set of wads as well, the T-32 comes to mind, but there is data out there for some of the other wads still being made. In one set of data I remember, they loaded the 2 3/4" hull with 1 5/8oz. of lead shot, this tells you how spacious the hull was/is.

If any of you folks would like to part with them i would be more than happy to buy them ...(and by the way "iceman2" hope you are not shooting ducks with lead, thats a no!no!....federal law) stu.
