Yep,..as the title says. I'm sure by now the pickin's are slim in the fields. I hardly got any shoots in this summer. I think I went out 3 times. Maybe I'll get some 'yoting in this fall/winter.
Actually sold my .204 a month ago because I just wasn't getting out anymore. Still have my 17 HMR but its likely gonna be next spring that I get out again.
sorry to say guys but this was my best summer yet for gopher hunts. Probably made it out 25 times, went through a couple thousand rounds of .22, .17M2, .17 HMR. Still a few out there on the sunny afternoons west of Edmonton.
+1, I just got back from Sask. First time I ever went to Swift Current without a gun. Everything got drowned near me this spring, just as they were starting to get the numbers up. Maybe next year.
Done and done. When I did get it, it was for several hours at a time. Only 1000 rd of .223 this year. Priority switch - bow season in four days, and muzzleloader in 5 weeks.
It sucked for me too. It was a Turnaround year for my plant. And they planned the outage for April 15 through May 31 and I only had 3 days off during that period. Missed the prime gopher time
This year was a good one for me. I made it out to gopherxs' place several times. April 1 was the start date, as I was working out there. I made a couple of special trips after that to do my civic duty. I teamed up with dirtdog and his son-in-law and we had a "blast". We shot from Friday noonish until Sunday nooish. Sunday morning I had to shoot my way out of gopherxs' yard!
Next year, I plan to have a little tandem holiday trailer to stay in whilst gopher shooting. My wife thinks I am buying it to go "camping"..... Well, whatever works.
I use either my 10/22 or a Beretta 301 12ga on the cute little gophers. I can't quite fathom the "animal lovers" thinking that we should not be shooting gophers. I guess they can't have been out of their little realm to actually see the terrible amount of damage these things do.
Well then from what I read it wasn't too great a year anyway what with the rain. I'm sure there will be those who say their shoots were spectacular.
For those of you who did get "mega" shoots in, thats great. I've had a couple of years where we had 1000+ gopher days, and it feels great.
Selling a rifle?? OMG, I'd never do that. My .204 and .223 stay with me. As well as all the others.
Theres always next year...plus, I could always try 'yoting and see how it turns out. Get to try out my cheapie electronic yote call ("predator" by Primos...)
