Dr. Valerius Geist, 1938-2021, died last night. World leader on biology of mountain sheep. Controversial, outspoken, brilliant scientist. Retired from University of Calgary living in Port Alberni, BC on Vancouver Island.

Knew Val reasonably well.
Attended a few classes from him back in the day.
And did confer with him on and off over the years on management situations.
Was always open and friendly. As well as extremely gifted and intelligent all round.
A Mentor, and one I admired greatly.

I am deeply saddened by his passing.
He was a Great Man, and one our whole Community will miss dearly.

Rest In Peace Sir.
If anyone ever deserved that, you most certainly cut the mustard...

Sadly,
Matt

Well that sucks. I never knew the man but I am familiar with a lot of his work. They don't make great minds like that every day.

May he rest in peace and may his legacy prosper.

I have his mountain sheep book. Funny, thinking of him the other day, we were actually discussing Herero, and wondered if he was still alive.

Grizz

He appeared on two episodes of The Hunting Collective podcast. I haven't listened to either episode since they came out, but I know what I'm listening to at work tomorrow.
