Hey Gang,

I am looking to take the Black Badge course in the near future, and I'd like to get all my gear purchased beforehand so that I can practice shooting with it and become comfortable before the course.

What I would like to ask is for suggestions on a minimum BB/IPSC setup. I have done some reading and Blade-Tech seems to be a decent line, so I guess that would be the brand I am looking at for a holster and mag pouches. The question is, with so many bloody holsters and mag holders available, how the hell does a fella decide?

Any input from the experienced side of the house would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, almost forgot; I will be using a Gen 4 Glock 17. Thank you!

Im taking my BB on the 25th soim not experienced but this is what i gathered

1. 5 mags
2. Mag holsters-i went with the safariland individual mag pouches as they are individually adjustable for angle and tension
3. Pistol holster-i have a Blade tech black ice and love it
4. 500rds
5. Comfortable Eyes and ears

Any self respecting shop will let you try the holster on your belt then just make the motion of drawing and see if its comfortable...

Look for a holster that will put a little distance between your hip and the gun. What I mean is a holster with a paddle or other setup so that it's easier to grab the gun. Guys like me wit a little overhang over the belt line like holsters that are way out there - but there is a rule that limits how far you can go. A holster like a Bladetech will be fine as far as the rules go. I started out with a cheap Fobus holster and I still use it for general range carry and open carry in the U.S.

For mag holders I would go with the race ones like CRspeed or Double Alpha. Some day you may upgrade to a speed holster but that's not the best to start out with. Mag holders on the other hand are good to go. Of course the CRspeed or Double Alpha stuff is more expensive so budget is a consideration too. Again I have a cheap Fobus double mag pouch that works just fine but the race ones are much nicer - and adjustable.

Don't skimp on a belt unless you really can't afford it. Get yourself a good double belt velcro setup. Again CRspeed and Double Alpha make good stuff. If you dont' start with a good belt you'll find yourself buying one sooner than later so don't spend much on a cheap setup now. Instead of buying a crappy gun belt you could always just use whatever stiff belt you might have in your wardrob now to get by Black Badge.

IPSC is lots of fun. I've never looked back.

I'm somewhat new to this too but have been shooting steel challenge for a few months now.

I have a blade tech for a holster and like it. I definately would get single mag pouches with a camber adjustment. I have double mag pouches and regret getting them. They are just awkward to grab a mag and reload.

I also bought a cheaper inner/outter belt. It does the job for now.I do plan on buying a double alpha in the near future as they are definately more stiff.

bladetech holster and double alpha racer pouches

the racer pouches are more expensive than some options (but not by much compared to other single pouches) but they come with inserts that you can swap around to make them hold any mag as well as being able to adjust the angle

Ok, so a bit of a thread revival here, but I didn't want to start another...

Got myself a Gen4 Glock 17 and now I am looking to purchase a holster and mag pouches. I will be looking to Freedom Ventures for the Double Alpha Racer pouches, but I was wondering if anyone could suggest a board sponsor for the Bladetech holster? I believe it is the Black Ice I will be buying (seems to be a good starter for IPSC?)

Thanks again for helping me out in my quest to get ready for IPSC....

I got my blade tech holster, cr speed pouches and cr speed belt from site sponsor brant shooting sports. Great guys and they know what they are talkin about if you need tips/sugestions. Not sure what the ice holster is, on the package of the one I get it says "DOH W/ASR holster". I am sure one of the guys on here can tell you which is the best holster for you, or get a hold of the guys from Brant.
