So its about time for my first black rifle purchase, and all the reading in the world has only helped me narrow down the choices a bit.
My biggest concern so far is whether or not to get an NR or R for shooting in the Calgary area. I have a range membership for a range with an indoor rifle range but that likely wont keep my satisfied long. Id be extremely interested in some sort of cqb or competition shooting but from my reading im going to have to go aways to accomplish that. Which is a concern with my 10-12 hour work days 6 days a week.
Lets get down to it then.
The XCR is high on the NR list, spending a butt load on a barrel for the acr is on the table too. tavor isnt an option as I am just not digging the looks.
Onto the restricted side of things, heres where it gets tricky. Ive been swooned by the appeal of the DD M4V5, price is also fair and parts readily available. The ACR and SIG 516 Patrol are in competition as well, my fear is not the price but the availability of parts for the piston driven carbines. And parts are a very real concern for me as since getting back into shooting I have been doing it like its going out of style. Id say with range availability I could easily stand to put 1k ammo down range a month easily.

So lets have it, Flame away, Opinions be unleashed. Albertans here is your time to shine with input!

I'm still fond of my XCR, even though I don't shoot it very often anymore.

If you're going to go restricted, you might as well stick with the AR. So yeah, DD is a good choice.
Also, AR's are so much cheaper then some of the other guns you mentioned you've saved some money to put towards an NR in the future if indeed you get bored of the range.

And don't you be fooled, this may be your first BR purchase, but it won't be your only/last. So you might as well budget with that in mind.

I myself am thinking I need to take a break from the EE, haha.

My main picks on the restricted side was the DD or the Sig 516. Im a huge SIG fan but I have never gotten to handle one, and Ive felt the DD. I really like the idea of piston reliability.
Money is not really the issue, quality, reliability and being able to run it like a dirty hooker are.

Calgary shooting competitions? Calgary and District Target Shooters runs competitions, although they are static currently.
I hear they have a new range on the way that will be very well appointed. I think they are welcome of other people that enjoy the shooting sports - kind of a refreshing idea.
Personally, I'd stick with a non-restricted rifle for now, especially if you want to use it past 100m.
The Swiss Arms Classic Green/Black Special is worth the entry and should hold it's value.
If you buy an AR, prepare to take a bath (but not necessarily so) on the re-sale.
I wouldn't touch an XCR with a 10' pole.
The Tavor is OK, but don't expect too much from the accuracy - they are apparently hit and miss, with a little more miss.
