Another help me choose thread. CZ/Beretta

Thanks for all the input.

The Beretta is such a sweet deal it's making my decision that much harder.
Dealer cost is making it even harder for the CZ
If I could get a Beretta 90TWO for a great price I think I would go for that.
Still, having never even fired any hand gun before I can't make an intelligent decision.

I've fired 50 cal. 338, 308, 556 and 22. How hard can it be?

Kelsow, the issues are:

1) How you perceive the weight and balance of the pistol
2) The distance from the backstrap to the trigger
3) The thickness and feel of the grip
4) The shape/curve of the backstrap
5) The bore axis
6) The stock sights
7) The availability and ease of changing sights if you don't like the stock ones.
8) Control placement

These characteristics work together to make it a pistol you will love or a pistol you will endure.

I really respect the Beretta, but having owned one, I can tell you that it is not for me. The grip is blocky and thick. Some people love have hands that fit a Beretta. I don't unfortunately, because I really like everything else about a Beretta--fit, finish, even the sounds it makes.

DON'T BUY A GUN UNTIL YOU HAVE SHOT A FEW BOXES OF AMMO WITH IT.
 
I like the Beretta, but it's the cutout slide-on-barrel that keeps me from loving it. Something just doesn't feel right about it, especially when I come over the top to rack. Is that just me?

I feel the same way...Kinda. I am not quite sure yet how to rack my slide. The safety/decocker makes this operation unconfortable.
 
I know we're talking CZ vs Beretta but I'd like some of your opinions of the Glock 17.I have a 1911 style 45 and I just picked up a Walther p-38. I was initialy turned off by the "plastic" pistols but I have come to really like the safety set up on the Glocks(no external safeties to fool with....just like a revolver.....if you don't want to shoot don't pull the trigger) and surprisingly it really feels good in my hand.A local dealer has some new 17's arriving @ around $650 and am thinking about taking the plunge.?????

Thye both have DA/SA triggers, in the case of my guns, the Beretta has a very long smooth double action pull, and a fairly crisp single action pull. The CZ came stock with a very gritty double action pull, and a creepy single action pull. The CZ is slowly breaking in however.

The Beretta has a decocker/safety that is mounted on the slide (not the ideal location imo), while the CZ does not have a decocker, but rather a conventional safety, mounted in a more conventional spot on the frame.

In my case the Beretta was vastly superior in terms of fit & finish.

The Beretta is a large gun, larger than it needs to be. It's not for the slight of hands. The CZ is much slimmer.

It's worth mentioning that both of these guns have tons of aftermarket goodies available.

I also own both (a CZ75 and a Beretta M9A1). I find the CZ to be quite "clunky" compared to the Beretta. The Beretta does feel quite a bit larger (but I'm a big guy with largish hands). The CZ still fires fine but I'd put my money on the Beretta.

Hmm... touch choice! I will take the Shadow, the reason why is we mainly use the gun at the range, that little extra weight on the Shadow add extra stable, less muzzle jump means better follow shot and accuracy.
