Only problem i find with SAMs, are that because they are hand fitted. Any higer end parts require extra fitting. Some internal parts dont work at all (sear hammer fit)
Nothing wrong with Sigs, nor STI
I would put Sig quality over STI though, but then again I would put a few other non-custom manufactures above Sig also
Curious which STIs have you shot? Blanked statements are kind of meaningless when taking about STI. STI makes guns from <$1K to >$5K. Sig makes essentially 1 mid pack (1K - 1.5K) 1911 in multiple forms and colours. I've shot a Trojan on a few occasions, owned a Rangemaster, and currently have a Perfect 10. The Sig 1911 that I shot was not on par with any of the STIs in terms of built quality or accuracy. Finish of the Sig may have been better than the Trojan or Rangemaster because STI's matte black/blue finish is not that durable, but I put that criterium low on the list of importance.
I actually own 5 STI's 3 in the 4k+ range and shot 2 of them in open class in IPSC for years, and 1 Spartan and 1 Trojan. I can honestly tell you that the Trojan/Spartan (factory production) don't compare to my Grandmaster/DVC/Edge (factory custom). So yes, I have shot STI's before
My statement was for similarly priced pistols, not custom ones. You can't compare SVI/STI, to most factory pistols, as they are in the same quality or Wilsons, Nighthawks, Ed Brown, or Les Baer. Try the Sig TacOps, or Blackwater, both which will compare to any sub 2k pistol.
STI have proven to be great pistols over the years for me to the point I've sold off others (Colts, Dan Wesson) to be replaced with more STI's... Not that there was anything wrong with the others but the fit and function of STI was better. The only other keeper is a Springfield TRP.
That being said, I'm not sure I like the new direction that STI is going....too much focus on fancy race type guns. Dropping the Sentry was a huge mistake in my opinion...
For the mid price range 1911....Trojan is hard to beat.
Not sure if I want to tell anyone "I got an STI"

"I LOVE my STI. I'm never getting rid of it!" Lol
