I end up with crazy space between the mount and the stripper clip guide at the back, and the front of the receiver and mount like this...

If i crank down the dove tail strip the front end just tilts way up :runaway:

Any one run into this before?

Thanks

Isn't there supposed to be an adapter with an adjusting screw that dovetails in place of the stripper-clip guide? I seem to remember one of those with my Brookfield rail...

  1. Did you make sure that your fiberglass stock isn't interfering with it?
  2. Why is there maching grove's on your scope mount?
  3. Did you go over the installation step's properly?

If all the following has been done I would contact them direct exspecaily if it's not a Norinco reciever.

Do smith mounts normally not have machining grooves? Could it be fake
It's marked smith ent.

I tried installing it with the recevier not in the stock and i had the same issue, also tried it on 3 seperate receivers, 2 chinese and one US mfr.

I'll contact smith today but i think I know what they'll say... the typical boiler plate about these scopes being made for GI receivers and not made for commercial variences.. blah blah.

I ordered mine directly from Smith, and it has the machining groves in circles like yours.

I haven't installed mine yet, tho.

Didn't even occur to me to be fake just thought that it was maybe screwed with. As the stuff I seen from Smith ussaly is in mint condition. Also the reciever shown in the pic look's like an LRB or something of that nature. So if that's the case Smith won't be able to say that. The only thing I can think off to make it work would be to shim it with washer's at the stipper clip guide & that's if the front adjustment point will go that far. Try to ask H20 MAN if he has ever heard of something like this before also.
Please post back because this does seen to be wierd.
Here is a pic of Smith mount's that I am use to seening;

If you check out the top picture on the right you can see some of the markings on my mount.. says " smith ent Tempe Az, M21"

Yup, it's an LRB (this one to be exact: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=476203 :) ..)

But i'm having the same trouble with it on 2 other receivers as well which makes me think it's the mount. I just got some advice from SEI via email "Read the mounting instructions"
Thanks SEI :)

I'll try again later

When i tighten the cam lock, and the mount cranks up to the side of the receiver, the gap on the top gets bigger.

If I crank down on the stripper clip guide part, the mount cants way back and to the right.

Thanks for the diagram... I was gonna look for that and check.

I think your groove is not long enough....compare with mine you can see it is not the same lenght ( don't look at the screw hole, it was out of spec and I got a waranty return on this one....)

Groove looks the same to me, I think it's an optical illusion b/c the bolt stop reccess on yours is longer... could be just me.
Anyway, it wasn't hanging up there...

The recoil groove (the vertical one over the hole) is irrelevant when using the SEI mount. It's designed to use only the bolt hole, lower groove and charger guide dovetail.

On the SEI moun, the bolt hole is oblong (like a cam form), so as you rotate the bolt collar around in the hole, the height of the mount goes up and down and the mount at the same time moves slightly fore and aft in the horizontal groove.

Have you tried all the possible positions for the bolt collar (e.g. 1 0'clock through 12 o'clock)? If not, then try that first. It should make a sizeable difference.

Thanks for your help fellas, I was fooling around with it at lunch and i think i got 'er.
Claven, you were right, the cam bolt was the answer. It's still sitting a little high in the front but i think with some more fiddling I'll be able to get 'er.

Will post some pics once i get 'er all set up
:)
