Another K98 For Evaluation *this time with better pics*

The book says: "The 1940 code “243” rifle shows very little variation from the standard set in 1939. Proofs were
eagle “26” throughout with the exception of a few eagle “211” stocks up to the “b” range. The
known serial number range is from 1324 to 1209t, with an estimated production of
210,000 rifles."

243 on receiver that is Borsigwalde with flat instead of cupped buttplate.

This one stands a chance.

But more and better pics are still required. When I drop big money on a rifle, I require proper high res pics of everything. If its woodwork, then different story. These look like gunbroker pics, and i wouldnt buy based on them. On a rifle that early, EVERYTHING is numbered.

I do like the North Sea fleet marking on the takedown disc.

edit: I found the auction, still doesnt show alot of numbers which should match.
This early, both screws, front sight blade, bayo lug, buttplate, plus all the usual stuff will be numbered.

I see numbers on the bayo lug and the buttplate, and that's about it.

It looks like it has a good chance of being a nice legit matching k98k but I'd want to make sure that all the numbers match as they should before dropping big bucks on it. Remember when you import something there is no way of returning it should something not meet your expectations. Be 100% sure of what you're getting before committing to the purchase.

I wouldn't go the GB way if I had the choice of buying locally. I really want to get a matching or almost matching K98. Usually the matching ones that I've found here are asking close to 2000$ which is much more than the ones I've seen sold on GB. So sadly, GB remains my only hope at getting a "matching" K98.

Even on gunbroker I dont think you will find a matching one for less then $1200. And they arent common anymore.

Also factor in the importing cost, on a $1200 rifle its about $430. So you arent far off anyways. Also need to factor in shipping in the US.
I purchased a matching gun off of GB recently.
$1295 for rifle.
$55 for shipping
$425 for import

And up to a 10 week wait.

Buying in canada more often then not is if you get the chance at a matching undicked with k98, price usually is secondary. LOL

Getting a matching, legit, unsanded, unmesssed with, k98k in the US for under 1500 is pretty hard to do. They do come up once in a while but often condition isn't the greatest or it's a common code. Those that are nice, or hard to find, are often selling for close to 2k or more. Add on the import cost, shipping, tax, etc., to a purchase and you're usually well over 2k. I bet this North Sea marked 243 goes for a lot more than 1500.

Again, there are good deals out there like the one CanadianAR recently purchased but you'll have to be patient.
