another M14 critique

In 2016 owning and shooting an M1A or M14 is an emotional choice.
For those who choose it, it's a great experience, and worth bearing the costs.
I suspect the same is true of the M1.

the reason for the adoption of the m16 and the 223 /556 whatever was the SIZE of the target had changed, and the economics ie it costs a lot less to "put down" a 100 pound soaking wet human that stands all of 5 foot tall of slight build than it does to put down a 6foot 200 pound plus heavy boned white Caucasian of german /Russian decent- the m14 was a case of "ok here's the garand- how can we make it better, keep the range, and be just as effective- "where as the m16 was a whole new rifle from the ground up designed to 3-400 yards range max- a lighter bullet based on the "target"s body specs- I believe they used a typical Filipino as the "model- plus the m16 was envisioned for air force security and other duties I ie the role in which the m1 carbine was employed- it was bob macnamara and the air force boys that shoved that pos down our throats( the collective our) and all the teething troubles that went with

wha???? Is this for reals dude??

size of the tgt changed?? I would suggest that in the 50s/60s there were not many 200lbs men in the world like there is now. Go look at news clips of ww2/korea/vietnam/belgian congo etc. the vast majority of guys were under 6ft probably around 120-150lbs.
"They" used a typical filipino as a model?? Size of a target is irrelevant in the inf, the phrase I learned was, aim for the center of visible mass. where are you finding this ####. If you have actual documented info on this, such as an actual memo stating as much from Robert MacNamara or Eugene Stoner then link to it.
Otherwise, this sounds like gunstore bs.

So during the Cold War fighting Russians wasnt considered?

I just spotted this thread and am not going to go through the whole thing to see if this has been covered before or not.

I know and have talked to a Viet Nam vet about this. He hated/hates the M16; loves the M14. After 2 1/2 tours -'65 through '67 ,in the jungle, I figured he would know.

Killing ain't pretty, and neither is what it does to both parties no matter which side of the trigger you are on. 50 years later, he is still messed up.
