Ammo

Is it possible to get ammo?

Yes Sir, factory ammo still available (made by Win) at Wholesale Sports, Ellwood Epps etc etc.

I'll have to swing by P&D and see if there is some there to.

Marlin 25.20

Got it today and immediately ran 12 rounds through it at a pop can. The picture doesn't do it justice. She's a fine shooting classic.

That's a very nice rifle. If I hadn't bought the 94 25-20 I would have went for that one. I am after a Marlin 94 in 32-20 now. Know where one may be? I'm just in the process of purchasing a Marlin
1894M (22 mag) in near mint condition. Thanks for the pic Matt.

No problem Arch. I had read this post just earlier, then thought of you when I was browsing and saw the pic. Doesn't hurt to look out for others too.
It is a very nice looking rifle. Heck, if I wasn't into Winchesters, I'd pick it up. I'm on the lookout for Winchester 1886s (one of each cal) and 1895 (405cal TD, and a few other calibers right now)
I'll keeo my eyes open for your 32-20.

Carpet

Hey Arch, the carpet could use a go-over with the vacume... ;) :p

I agree !!!:D My place doesn't look like that! The dirty carpet is at Accuracy Plus gunshop. Maybe after seeing this they will get out the vacume :D :D :D

Arch, from some personal (painful, expensive) experience with old Marlins, I am sure that you have asked Accuracy Arms for a guarantee that the rifle has no home-made parts in it................and when you get it, you are going to take it apart (or have somebody take it apart) and confirm that there are no home-made parts in it. ;)

Right?

I don't know what it was about the old Marlins that seemed to be irresistible to home gunsmiths, but they sure as hell cost me a pile of money to put right. Parts for them are not easy to come by, and are not cheap. :runaway: And those home gunsmiths sure liked to put home-made parts in the guns I bought........

EVERY freakin' time I bought one.....:bangHead:

But I am cured now. :dancingbanana: I think.............

Well I didn't ask, but it shoots to nice to seemingly have "newer parts". I have not even come close to being that knowledgable about old Marlins or how to spot tampering or repairs.

It does look to be all original, but who the hell am I. If there is a Marlin expert in the Edmonton Alberta area, it probably wouldn't hurt to have a look at it though. I'll take your advise and get it checked since you are the most experienced gun trading / swapper I know.

Thanks Doug.:)

Arch, I cannot take a gun apart myself, have no idea where to start. But I could see the following little oddities, all of which happened to me with various old Marlin lever guns:

1. barrel cut on a bias

2. barrel counter-bored, on a bias

3. wrong wood

4. wrong sights

And when my smith got inside them:

1. home-made firing pins, including one rusty spike

2. home-made springs

3. cut-down mag tubes and other internals

My experiences with old Marlins has convinced me that I do not have the knowledge to make an intelligent decision about buying them or giving them a bye..........so now I just let them go past. But I would not hesitate to buy a rifle from somebody who is an expert and who told me it was an all original gun - if it was something I wanted. Good luck buddy!

Doug

Marlins are kool old levers.
I have a 25-20 Hex Barrel Short Rifle.
Extremely rare in perfect shape just starting to turn patina.
I rarely ever shoot it & will probably never part with it!
I'd post a pic but I see my batterys are dead

Pic now :) :)
Here it is beside a clunky old SR carbine.
Somehow got turned sideways
