Okay, so I am thinking of jumping on the Marlin XL7 bandwagon since I have been hearing great things about them and the price seems right. I would like to use this as a base for a custom project, has anyone rebarreled one yet? I would assume no problems, but could it be done with out the barrel nut? I also see the Boyds has stocks for them, so I would likely re-stock it too. I am thinking of a long action and rebarreling to either 25-06 or 280 AI, 26" tube and possibly an on/off brake. Any info would be appreciated!

Ummm...just one thought. Why? For all the additional money that would be spent, why not just upgrade to the rifle of your dreams in the first place rather than upgrading an economy model to end up with an expensively dressed up economy model?

Like a $2200 Cooper? I like the idea of having a little input into the build and the Marlin is on sale right now for less than $300, plus $400 for the barrel, and $150 for a stock makes it $850 all in. The other $1350 can be spent on a great optics and tons of ammo, or a hunt to enjoy the rifle.
