hey fellas, ive jumped over to NZ and unfortunatly didnt bring Kim with me ( kimberly montana) the 7mm-08
so im lookin at buyin a cheap rifle to get er done this year.

ive seen the Patriots - brand new for around $700-$750 NZD however I researched those and asked on CGN an are confident it would do the trick very well, BUT
ive been offered a Mossberg ATR100 model in 270 Winchester for $500 with i think Rings and 60 rounds of Ammo-
the ammo is kind of no drama however over here each 20 rounds costs apprx $50 NZD.......

the rifle is apparently from a Lady/Women and shes shot bugger all- as in half a Box i believe.

Im wondering if the ATR 100 is any good in terms of comparrision from the PATRIOT - and is the Patriot worth the extra $250 as a gun to kill animals with out to 350m maybe 400m.......... little Chamois, slightly bigger Tahr and larger Red stag ;) Now im not doubting th .270s capability, more the Mossbergs :D :d:d

one thing i did note in store was the sling studs arnt studs but moulded loops into the stock- worst case i could epoxy some kind of studs into it if i snap one off....

i cant recall if there was a weight difference?

cant recall if the ATR had a magazine or not

but was hoping the CGN community could give me their opinion on the ATR----

Thanks!!

There have been a lot of complaints about the extractor breaking on earlier models. There was also this:
" The assembly pin (sometimes referred to as the bolt head pin or retaining pin) is breaking. The gun will then fire when the locking lugs are not locked causing the bolt to fly back, causing possible injury. "

Not sure if this is internet rumor or not. I know that I was advised not to touch the Night-Train (Or Nightmare or Trainwreck or whatever it was called) for this reason.

Yep- thats enough for me LOL

il stick to the PAtriot if i go mossberg then!!

Both are far superior Firearms. Much better than the Mossberg.

i sort of understand that however down here they are like $200 more New and realistically Im not hunting near as much as I would be back in Aus, its literally for 1 year of hunting where i may only shoot 100 rounds IF that depending how often i get to a range much in between hunting when the finger is a little itchy-

The Patriot is part of a Combo here with a scope and a supressor for around $1000 and they are selling like a Hot cake from macdonalds at 6am....

bare rifle is $650 on sale at the moment an a possible SALE coming up this weekend.... hopefully i can get it for $600! and they Lay By which means i wontbe out of pocket until i start work. :)

just What is the drama with the Patriots??

i felt them, actions isnt slick-seems it would smoothen out with a lot of working of the bolt, the magazine is Plastic an a cheaper plastic than Tikka- the stock is plastic, ......
recoil pad is pretty good...

non magnum Calibre an i have a Zeiss terra to go on top?

keen to hear more!
