After a couple years hunting deer I finally got my first one. Not a buck but a big white tail doe.
Me and a buddy were out North of Edson AB. We hunted for 2 days and never got a shot at anything, but just before sundown the second day I got my chance.
For the 2 days I was carrying my new Ruger #1 in 25-06 and never had not the opportunity to look at anything through the scope, the second evening rolls around and I thought maybe I will take out the old Win 70 in 30-06 and see if it has better luck, within 20 minutes I had 3 different deer in the scope. We decided to walk down this small cut line where we had seen a small buck momentarily earlier in the day. We walked up where the cutline met another cutline and carefully looked both ways, there she was standing in the middle of the cutline. My buddy took a knee and I thought for sure he was going to shoot her, after a couple seconds of waiting I whispered take the shot, I'm not sturdy enough standing, no response, shoot her I said, no response, so I looked down at him and he had taken a knee and covered his ears waiting for me to shoot. So I quickly took a knee and lined up the crosshairs, the doe was looking at us straight on with her head in the air, I gave her a couple seconds in case she would turn broadside but she didn't so I pulled the trigger in the middle of her chest, she dropped on the spot.
Gun used was Winchester model 70 westerner, using federal power shok 150 gr (yup the cheap stuff), shot was only about 90 yards.
