Another nail in the coffin

Its just the times, polymer guns are lighters and are completely idiot proof, oh yeah they are also dirt cheap. I hope they would sell it back to browning and maybe we can get some to the civilian market, but I just don't think its going to happen with today's political climate.

The BHP give great service to the Brits and the commonwealth for the last 70 or so years, its considered a classic and nothing is going to change that. Its a fantastic pistol. (don't hate on glocks :p)

I've owned several BHPs and loved them all. While in the army I was issued and fired the High Power. Lots of rounds down range and never had a problem. There is no doubt that there are better weapons but I am a believer in, "If it aint broke, don't fix it."
The side arm is not your primary weapon for the most part. I always felt while in the army that if I was down to using a pistol I was F*#ked anyway.

No argument here,if you get to pistol shooting in combat thats a bad day for sure.

This thread reminds me of a funny story regading sevice pistols. As a weapons tech, I fired a whole hell of a lot of the High Powers. The only time I ever actually used them in operation was in Germany when on guard duty.
I was posted to the RCDs in the mid 70s and every body would pull the occasional guard duty. I would be issued the same pistol and 5 rounds of ammunition that I swear every other guy had in the last 20 years. You were handed the pistol, belt and holster and these five rounds. They were green. I don't mean painted, I mean corroded. They had been handled so many times by so many sweaty hands they had a real nice patina. You then signed for the issue, loaded the mag and put it in your top pocket of your combats. At the end of your shift, you unloaded the mag, counted the rounds onto the counter and the stores guy signed for the kit. How many thousands of times those same rounds were handled I could not calculate.
I had a High Power I would carry occasionally on excersise but never with ammo.
