another new SMLE front hand guard

this one and its unfinished twin are cherry, i think, but that was the last of the cherry. they are both spoken for. i have enough left to make some rear hand guards, but have not tried those yet. the dark coloured one is from liberty tree gun parts, and is decidedly purple.thats why i made my own, which did not turn out as well as these last few. i`ll be making myself a new one eventually.
the cherry one, over time and exposure to light, will darken up to the same colour as the dark spots on the patch.

i take all the dimensions from the original one, and mostly by lining it up, and marking where i need to cut.

yes man- PM forthcoming

Am I mistaken, or there should be a metal insert at the end mating with the nose cap ? Is it ok to ignore that part ?

there is a little metal cap which is screwed on with tiny little machine screws that slides under the nose cap. i don`t imagine for a second that it is not important, as it protects the wood from the nose cap. I reused the one that was on the front hand guard i had, but i would think there is a place to get them or get them made. i will be attempting to make one, as i will be needing one in the near future, and will of course show off a successful result. as a hobbyist metal worker, i don`t think it will be that difficult.

I have seen them for sale somewhere on the net within the last month. I can't recall where, but will keep an eye open. Try Numrich and BRP.

Excellent job, will you tackle the fore stock next?

thanks.
i`ll try a practice fore end when the spring projects die down. got a kitchen to finish, some house repairs, etc. i`ll use pallet wood, any nail holes hope to be able to miss them. if not, an "arsenal repair" would take care of any problems like that. if that works out, maybe some purchased walnut or beech would be in order.
i see that numerich has the metal cap for the hand guard, i didn`t look to see if they had the clip for the rear hand guard.
