soooo......got me a 1911 nork a couple of months ago....bought lots of ammo...

besides changing the grips to wood ones, what trigger or other mods do you guys do to your norks?

im talking about specific fluff and buff jobs regarding a nork. there are several guides and links on 1911 upgrades, just want to know what you guys do to your chinese friend....

I bought mine with an adjustable rear site and slapped on some wood grips. That's it for the Government model.

Im planning on picking up a Sport model later and "pimping" it out :p

Other than change to a beavertail grip safety (drop in or fitted) if it did not come with one, on a new Norkie, nothing yet. A trigger job is nice but can cost a lot of coin if you do not DIY. The stock fixed sights aren't the best but decent enough. You can drift them if your point of impact is off and you can adjust your sight picture (6, center or 12 oclock, or raised front sight sight picture, whatever) for elevation correction.

Maybe I am just different from most but I prefer to spend nothing on a Norinco or most any other decent gun. I'll spend my money on reloading components and go shoot. I don't shoot much either. 50 rounds centerfire per session at the most (but hundreds of 22 LR).

Specifically for norkie 1911s, I would dry-fire as much as I can. Wedge a rubber eraser or a piece of soft plastic or rubber on the firing pin channel at the rear of the slide, to prevent the hammer hitting the pin.

Set-up a few bullseye targets against a safe wall (preferably basement wall with earth behind it) aware at all times that all guns are always loaded.

Dryfire at least a two hundred times or more every night . Count them. This will not only improve your trigger but eliminate flinch, strengthen your pistol-handling related muscles, improve your muscle memory and train your eyes as well.

Seriously, a good shooter can shoot any gun well. Once you become better than the gun, then go to town with mods if you will.

thanks rider. good advice there.

another question. i am a glock guy. i did many mods on my 19 as well as the famous $0.25 trigger job. are there any do it yourself easy trigger job links available for the 1911?

Here is mine, I put the SS extended safety and slide release on and then shortened them to what I wanted for my fingers.

ya....i was referring to internals....ways to smooth out the trigger action without breaking the bank

A $15 pin kit from EGW or any other reputable manufacturer, fitting a new barrel bushing and a long aftermarket trigger all make my basics list. MGW aftermarket narrow tenon front sight and nowlin lowrider rear are cost effective sight additions.

If you can get the MGW sights into Canada. If I am missing a dealer down south who ships them here, or one in Canada that stocks them, please let me know

Check out Brownell's website, their Gun tech section has a few articles relating to 1911 builds, you should also consider picking up the .45 Auto Manual, written by Jerry Kuhnhausen.

It is probably the best $30.00 you will spend if you are at all interested in working on your own 1911

On the Sport model

  • Flat backstrap (with integral mag well)
  • Trigger
  • Smoothing, deburing internals.
  • Replace the safety, I find it really thick and chunky, or you could grind it down and round the bottom edges.
  • Grips
  • Recoil buffer

Beyond that of course you can go as wild as you want. Other things that have been or are being done include;

  • Change springs
  • Bomar sight in a proper Bomar cut, fibre optic front sight
  • De-Norc name from slide by draw filing
  • Fitted barrel bushing
  • Tighten slide
  • Change extractor, ejector
  • EGW trigger, sear, hammer
  • Checker front strap

I've gone down this route before to build a Bulls eye pistol and its turned out great. However, the only thing Norc now is the frame.

If i was buying another Norc, I would to the following - EGW custom barrel bushing, EGW trigger group, Cylinder and Slide sear spring - great value!! Thats it!

options:
Grip - what ever you like.
Sight - what ever you need for the game you're playing - NRA, IPSC, etc...
