Coon that is….

Got my second raccoon of the season today. I thought I take advantage of the warm weather and go for a walk on the farm with my .22 and ecaller in hand. I went with the intention to kick some bush for rabbits and do some raccoon calling when I’d come across a good looking raccoon tree…. I tried to get my son to come along but I lost him to the X-box.....
During my walk, I managed to kick out one rabbit, took a shot but missed. I came across a few likely looking trees that would hold raccoons but this is the only one that I managed to get one to come out of. I played fighting raccoon sound. He came out of the hole in the tree to look to see which one of his buddies where fighting.. :) I place the call behind the tree so if a raccoon does come out he would have to leave the hole completely to see what is making the noise. I didn't have the caller playing more than a minute before he was out of his hole and on the other side of the tree trying to figure out my caller…Calling coons is relatively new to me but it’s exciting, action happens fast usually within a minute…

I was hiding about 5 yds behind and to the left the caller….

Hah, didn't know Racoons lived in trees...I guess you really do learn something new everyday.

Nice job, I was expecting a dead dog when I opened up this thread.

I just have to ask, why do people hunt raccoon? :D

Do you eat them, a fur thing, are they like coyotes/wolves and can kill other animals or wreck the ecosystem, or is it like ravens on your own property sort of pest deal?

We don't have them anywhere around here so I just don't know!

Worst pest ever.

Worst pest ever.

^^^This. Look in any major city you'll find hourdes of these vermin. These along with pigeons, rats and now oppossums cause more damage to property than you could imagine. The kicker is the huge number of so-called 'animal lovers' who feed these pests and drop a dime on you for getting rid of them.
