Another PMAGS question

So I've got some gen 2 FDE PMAGS and I dig em. Look great and are durable and reliable. But the suckers don't drop free and that sucks. Does any one know if the Gen 3 PMAGS drop free from a tavor or are they sticky too? And do they ony come in black?

My Gen 3's don't drop free (but aren't nearly as tight as the Gen2's). Here's what does drop free that I've tried: HK steel, HK Polymer, ATRS LAR mags, Lancer L5 AWM's. Surprisingly my Tavor steel mag doesn't drop free (and it is an IWI copy of the HK416 steel mag). Another one that doesn't drop free (for me) is the .50 cal mag who's name we shall not mention (it's on par with the Gen3's).

Are the rivets sticking out? That seems to be the most common cause. Sometimes a quick touchup with a file can give the mags the clearance they need to drop free.

No unfortunately it's not that easy. I pulled the rivet on one then tried it one to see if that was the issue, before I re pinned it. No luck. They aren't super sticky, just enough that they won't drop free on their own. Which doesn't matter for most shooting I do. But when I want to practice reloads, it's a pain. Thanks for the info though folks.

That's not the issue on mine either...Gen2's feel "largish" in the magwell before they even get to the rivet location (and my rivets are flush).

All my gen 3's drop free, after filing down the protruding head rivet just enough to clear. I wonder what the dif is? I would say it's the mag well, as the mags are not all the same batch, and all drop free. I have never tried a gen 2.

I feel like Arnold Schwarzenegger in kindergarten cop on this site sometimes...."it's naht a tumah!". Seriously guys, for what ever reason the PMAGS I have do not drop free and it is not caused by the rivet. I know because I have removed one, tested it without a rivet, still had to pull it gently free, countersunk the rivet hole and replaced the rivet.

Sorry for wasting your time with my amoeba answer to your multi-cell question.

Ha ha. Your reply was actually helpful. It's the guys that post a reply without reading the other posts that get me . I think I'm gonna have to just bite the bullet and test out a gen 3 in my tavor to see if that little extra wiggle room is enough. If not I'm gonna have to busy out the belt sander.

Affirmative. Every Gen 3 I have tried drops free from my Tavor, even 5/20's. I can do the "use the upper thumb area of my trigger hand to reach back and press the mag release to drop it free while the my fwd hand grabs another mag."

That's how it feels natural to reload for me. I think I'm gonna pick up a couple to try out. Thanks a lot.

So I picked up 2 gen 3 PMAGS from GP Tactical on sale. Great service from them as usual.

I tested them out and both drop free. The design had a lot of very small difference from the gen 2's but I can't see that the new mags are any smaller. But they do work the way I would like them to. And they were cheaper than my gen 2's. Now I just have to wait till I can find other colours.
