I found this one in an Ontario gun shop waiting for a new owner. February 1958 manufacture, never wore a scope as it still had all the plug screws. Never was cleaned much either, but stored properly so all was good there. The original owner installed an old brown recoil pad that fit terribly. But the stock wasn't cut so that was a bonus. Missing the front sight hood and the original aluminum buttplate but that's not bad for a rifle over 62 years old. The finish was chipped and scratched but no dents or deep cuts so I figured I'd buy it to refinish it. In 30/06, 22" barrel.
I am searching for a proper aluminum buttplate but in the mean time found that the old steel checkered butt plate from a Remington model 513 fit perfect. Almost. I would need to fill the bottom hole in the stock and redrill. I will exhaust an original buttplate search first before I plug that hole. I don't feel like cutting the stock for a proper pad.
So far so good. Just wanted to share.

















 
The safety is big alright. Needs some getting used too. The bolt handle is surprisingly nice. The trigger is something else. Holds 2lbs with the slam test no issue.

I'm going to overscope it, see how it shoots.
 
The safety lever is very much like that on the US M1917.
When the 725 was made it was Remington's top of the line sorting rifle.

Remington never made a 725 BDL. They designated it the 725 ADL even though it came with a floorplate. Then it changed once they rolled the model 700's out, ADL, BDL. From what I understand anyways.
 
I have an 06 just like yours . I got it from Rembo a few years ago . It shoots 1 MOA with most loads and less with a few others . It's my favourite hunting rifle , mostly because it fits me so well , but it's a really consistent shooter . Personally , I like the safety , it's easy to find and very positive .

I haven't heard that before. Thanks. Nice rifle, regardless. I have one in 280 Rem, and another in a custom stock with a magnum bolt face that I haven't decided what to barrel it in yet. I'd really like to find a 720, in any cartridge. Like winning the lotto though. - dan
