Got the layout boat out today and it was a great hunt for many reasons. One I got to hunt with two old timers who have taken me under their wing for few years now to show me all tricks they have learned over the years. Two we had some great shooting and three our ducks went towards a big duck stew for veterans service tomorrow.

you can see the other layout set up about 80 yards from me

todays bag was a mixture

Very nice... I hope to do some sea duck hunting some day. I have a buddy in St.John who has some ducking connections... we are working on a swap hunt.

Thats what I like to see , guys from the wrong coast out having a good shoot ;)
Thanks for the pics !!
Are you regulated to the number of decoys you can have in your spread and how close to the other layout?
Best Regards,
Rob

No limit on distance or number of decoys. I was working with the other layout we have one tending boat two layouts. I hunted places where you anchor 70-100 yards apart and 5-12 boats in a row. The better you know the boat along side the closer ya get lol. Ideal is 50-60 yards so nothing can get by without a shot

T D thanks for the info on the layout and spread.
What about limits, sorry I know I could go and look it up on the internet, but hey what not a better way to keep the thread at the top of the page ;)
Thanks Again, looks like a boatload of fun.
Rob

Seaduck shooting is a good time, they have thick feathers and erratic flight patterns. Never done it on the east coast.

Don't taste as bad as they say if you skin them.

I miss sea duck hunting... spent many a day shooting at eiders, scoters, oldsquaws and the like between Saint John & St Andrews. It could sometimes be bitterly cold, and occasionally dangerous. But those nice calm sunny warmish days in February were the best. Duck hunting has all wrapped up around here. -26 today and 40 cm of snow on the ground ...

5 divers a day which only 4 can be scooter. It is a lot of fun and tough birds but I use 20 ga to 10ga. I got some pics of past years seaducking I can start a thread or add to this of the weather I've hunted. Nothing better then seeing them wings cupped
