Hi all,
I am admittedly not terribly knowledgeble in LE markings and haven't seen this on the board before. Does it mean anything or is it a random scar? It is on this rifle and the front wood matches the receiver.

Also what does the B above 1942 mean?

Thanks and Cheers

The B marking is more of a very late BSA mark. Following the bombing of the main BSA plant a Small Heath, they dispersed production to a number of smaller plants, brought the parts together just in time for assembly. The B stood for Birmingham, but production in this area was under BSA control, so you could call it a BSA marking, too. All same thing.

As to the big Z, who knows? There are all sorts of markings out there that we will never know. I have a WW1 Mauser branded with CIA and a leaping horse..... no idea on that one, either. But this one.... Perhaps Iraqi???????? Personally, I haven't the faintest idea on this one, just thought I'd throw out some ideas for people to shoot down.
