So I have been seeing a few guys on here chop down some old single shots so I figured Id give it a go. This is not really for bear defence or anything in particular. I just wanted a fun shotgun to bring camping on canoe trips and fishing trips that could be taken down easily. I figure a 12 guage with a 19 inch barrel should be good to take even a grouse if Im just out hiking scouting for dear next year as well, if I cant hit em with the .22lr. I have a full size shotgun for birds but I am thinking the .22lr is the way to go in the bush but I can break this thing down and just put it in my pack.

So here she is. Actually an unkown manufacturer, with a very interesting release button for the action, and only paid $1oo.

Now I just need to figure out how to get a new bead installed. Was in pretty good shape, but I painted it just cuz I had some krylon laying around. I am gonna look into some camo patterns and prolly do the whole gun. Anyone have any experience painting over bluing. Do I need to sand it or just prime right over it after degreaser? Also does anyone know where to get some swivel studs I can just screw into the wood? I need a set for my .22 as well.

Nice looking gun Frodo. Should be able to find swivels pretty easy. You can even get a set that screws into the butt and clamps the barrel from Cabela's.

Nice looking gun Frodo.

LOL :D

a suggestion:
i found just painting over wood (not that ive done it often) doesnt leave a very durable finish and it looks hideous if you scratch it (which is inevitable).
you should remove that same stock from the gun (or mask the receiver/barrel), degrease it (youve been handling it), and give it a coat of bedliner. practice on a piece of cardboard the distance you need to spray from to get the roughness of finish you want - just dont spray from too far or adhesion suffers.
after its done, and dry, just give it a dusting (not a full coat just a light mist to take the shine off) of flat black paint.
youll get a nice, grippy matte finish that actually looks quite good. remember bedliner will dry on the surface quite fast, but youll be able to press into it easily with your fingernail and itll still be soft underneath. it takes almost a week till its totally dry right through, and has reached its full durability.

are you sure you didnt use something like asphalt undercoating?

if you use proper quality bedliner it doesnt soften up. once its dry, its dry.

yes rubberized undercoating and rocker guard may get soft, but actual spray on bedliner better not get soft or the product would not be used for Pick up truck beds.

I just don't think there is enough to drill and tap a bead. Eben the original was very thin at the muzzle though.

If you're interested, I have some small bases that solder onto to barrel that you can screw a bead into. My 14" Norinco came with an off-centre bead and that was my fix. Drop me a line if you think it might work for you...
