I know, another stupid SL8-5 thread that someone has changed some parts. But here goes anyway.

I stole this pic, but this is what it started as when I picked it up from Wolverine this summer.

And this is how it looks now after the 4 months and lots of paper work, conversion.

Haven't shot it yet, but the optics are kinda lame.. The glass seems to be OK, but it has just an extemely narrow field of view. Also even with the shorter folding stock, it is a little long. Nothing I can't live with, but it would be nicer if it was an inch or so shorter...

Oh well, it's my new non-restrict funky varmint gun. Now I have to wait for the nefarious four legged bull gopher gopher to show his ferocious little mug.

I'll give a range report with the new G36E barrel in a couple weeks to determine accuracy, etc. I gotta find a bayonet... Just in case those pesky ground squirrels charge.:D

So where did you get the parts from? How much? What conversion work required? I have an SL8 myself and am wondering what to do with it,

The total cost is about the same as a PE90 in the box.

The parts, you just have to search, bug friends, and watch the different boards. When something comes for sale, do the deal and worry about the paper work after. It takes time, but can be done. I paid for stuff that I didn't see for four months. When I did, I was pleased.

There is a guy who was doing some custom "sculpting" on the HK thumb hole stocks. Basically taking away everything that doesn't look like a pistol grip and skeleton stock. It turns out pretty good. I think if I had better access to some ordinary saws and a blaster, it wouldn't be hard to do, and a fun project.

I may end up with the picurweenie rail and an Eotech as a sight. We'll see.

I do like the stock trigger.

I think the stock is longer than German issue due to the adaptor.

Yup. There are a couple companies down south that do some very good work of taking off some of the SL8 receiver and manufacturing a proper adapter and stock. The ones I've seen have the seperate, and proper, trigger group, with the stock and locking block pinned on with the normal HK push pins.

That would be too much of an expense at this time for me:(. Maybe next year. But they do bring the length down to a proper size.

Here is a family pic.

Thank the gawds that I can only take the one out off the property. Could you imagine the carnige that would happen if I was actually allowed to take all of them from my house to the range and back? Women would faint, small children would cry, grown men would wimper.... I thank the CFC every day and it's infinite wisdom to protect the population of this city from the likes of me.

Range report with the new set up. Only had 25 yds to play with, and 55gr ball. First rounds out of this rifle.

Sight was easy to get centred. And even with the narrow FOV, I still liked the donut with fine cross reticule inside. Very similar picture as with an Eotechish.

Groups were good.

Trigger, excellent out of the box. I think this could be a good rodent buster.

I've heard some concerns about the different POI, between shooting off the bipod, and using the mag. Also supposed to be lousy group shooting off the mag.... That will require some further tests at distance.

My informant on that issue isn't all that good with a rifle (R):p so I'll have to run that one myself. I'll also try using a bag/ruck and see if that works different.

If you don't want 'em, i'll gladly take them off your hands.:DWe'd just have to find some way to sneak them across the border.:p

That's a nice set of H&K's you got there, it's too bad you're not allowed to shoot those bad boys anymore. I had the priviledge of shooting a 91 when I was 16. It shot great, real smooth. I'm saving up to get a PTR-91 one of these days.

Koldt, that's the nicest conversion I have seen! Great family picture too! You have pretty much everything I want that I'm not entitled to own.
