Hi all,

Just want to share the results of my Stevens 200 precision project ... :D

This started as a Stevens 200 in 243Win and after I killed my first deer with this rifle, I wanted to give this rifle a new role. It is now chambered in 260Rem.

Here is the Specs:

Stevens 200 Short Action
SSS Competition trigger
SSS Competition recoil lug
SSS single shot loading ramp
Shilen Match 6.5 MM 1-8 27'' SS Barrel (Juanvaldez)
Boyds Laminated stock (I've done the bedding with DEVCON)

A question.
You started out with an "inexpensive", no insult intended, rifle and did a bunch of modifications.
How much did this all cost in the end?
Is it worth it or should you have gone with something up market to begin with?

Around 900$ including everything except the tools which I can reuse for other project.

I would say that it worth it.

Thanks

i built my little stevens 22 250 and my cost was 600. but i dident change the barrel (yet) and it shoots nice tight groups. great rifles and out shoot many more expensive rifles. no its not a sniper rifle but it does shoot well within minute of yote!

very nice build you have there.

Regardless of stock, you cannot buy anything with a match barrel for the cost of a stevens $349 and a match barrel $450. Not even close.

You also do not get the satisfaction that some take out of making something a little bit their own.

OP, that one looks like a shooter. Why do you put the barrel vice so far from the wrench?

The trick is, with the $900 spent by the OP on this project, he now owns a much more refined rifle than he could have purchased from the factory for the same $$.

That barrel is no joke. And that stock is a thing of beauty. Try finding a gun sitting on a rack at your local gunshop with a Shilen Barrel! :p

More pics of groups later!!

Only thing I want to change is the scope. I temporally put a Bushnell Elite 3200 5-15 x 50. But I don't see really well at 200 yards with that scope. I'm saving money to buy another Sightron...

Nice Job. I am sure groups will settle down even more with a bit of tuning.

More options to build up your Savage, Stevens or Axis in the coming months.

Outside of a couple of brands, most factory rifles lack many desired qualities even though they cost alot of money. Barrels, triggers, assembly and bedding are usually lacking or at least not as good as many precision shooters want.

To improve, you have to add even more money.

So starting with a Savage or Stevens and adding the items you want, actually saves money in the long run AND you typically get a rifle that can outshoot those very expensive factory rifles.... Even many custom target rifles.

YMMV

Beautiful.....I have a Stevens 200 in 223 that has the boyds stock and Basix trigger...I'm in the process of building a 25-06 with the Stevens action. I love the Stevens and for the price it shoots the pants off any stock rifle out there... Love to see these builds.
