Another Stick from Insite

Last year I shot an Accuracy International AX with some Insite barrels (6.5X47 and 6XC). The AI guns are great systems, run like a top and are highly accurate.

The rifle did not hold me back but a 3.5 pound trigger and a very high centre of gravity did not make things any easier. I decided to follow the crowd this year and try something different.

The build specs are:
Defiance Deviant Elite action (new this year, CRF, mechanical ejector, extended tenon, coned bolt)
Benchmark 7.5T Heavy Varmint in 6Br
CG Extreme 22 Trigger
MPA BA Chassis
S&B 5-25 in a Spuhr
Muzzle Brake by my buddy Chad

I can't say enough about the guys at Insite. They turned it around in record time and the thing is a hammer. The gun still has less than 50 rounds down the tube and load development is pretty much non-existent, no seating depth changes, one bullet type, one powder type. I will do a proper work up once the barrel is broken in and the brass is 1F.

The largest group of this batch is just over .400, the smallest was just under .350. Calipers are zeroed at .240 so the one pic is already CTC. Currently it is sitting at 2,800 FPS, SD of 7 and ES of 20 over 10 rds. The 6Br brass has very high neck tension so those numbers to improve with the 1F brass. I expect after speed up and some tweaking I will be in the high 2,800 FPS.

The high shot on the left is the cold bore.

The groups on the receipt (I forgot my targets at home) should be better but my aiming point is smaller than the centre dot on my reticle so I expect it will do better on the next outing.

Nice looking rig!
Did they source and bring in the parts for you or did you do that. Also how long did it take to get them here mainly that action?
Thx.

The action is from Gary at Bighorn as is the barrel. I think it was about 2 months from ordering it.

It is a neat action. The firing pin set up is different and results in a calmer (best way I can think to describe it) drop.

I think last time I spoke to Gary he still had one left.

I’ve been super pleased with my 6BR Benchmark barrel from Insite as well. Almost no need to do load work ups when factory Lapua shoots in the .4-.5 for 10 rounds groups. So impressed! Harley told me it’d be a hammer and addictive, but wow, those guys make it too easy almost.
The only reason I am running handloads in my 6BR is I can run them 200 FPS faster then the factory stuff, and I am hoping to use the 6BR out to 7-800 meters this summer on steel.
Also just did my first range session on my new 6.5 SAUM this week from Harley, and it shoots almost as good, with virgin Hornady brass no less, then the 6 BR.
I am now officially in double digits in barrels from Insite, almost all have been Benchmarks, on 3 separate rigs, 2 of those being switch barrel set ups, and the worst one out of all of them still shot .5 MOA straight out of the box!
Thinking I need to try 6.5x47 Lapua next, As so many people rave about it being super easy to tune as well.
Maybe a 6.5x47 in a left handed J Allen stock? Or the Whiskey 3? Hmmm....it never ends! Lol.

I chose the 6Br to see what the "inherent accuracy" is all about. The low recoil and good barrel life of the 6br is also a draw. PRS in Alberta seems to have its own style of lots of barricades and mid range distances (300 to 800M) so the extra juice of a bigger 6mm is not needed (again IMO), I do feel that once distances get to 1,000+ I would want more. Dasher sounds interesting but I am too lazy to FF.

These are not BR quality groups but for unprepped brass and an unknown seating depth they are pretty solid IMO. It seems like a special little cartridge so far.

It is mag fed. I have AW mags and I will need some mag kits to make it feed 100%. The AICS mags seem to run well so far but I need to do more testing.

I’m running a Primal Rights 6BR Mag kit in a standard AICS mag. Was about 50$ and took 2 minutes to instal. It’s not 100% reliable feeding still, but 95%. This mag is untouched and am going to play with the feed lips on this mag and think I can get it to 100% with just a little adjusting.

How much does it weigh?

I read that 15lbs with optics etc. is a good weight for PRS. I’m sure a lot boils down to personal preference. I have a rather heavy rifle that is quite stable once it’s parked where I want it but a bit of a pain to move around. I was shooting a lighter rifle today and I could easily move it around but it didn’t quite feel as solid on a barricade.

My comp rig is 22 lbs. I see MPA has weight systems to install on the chassis now that will put them at 9 lbs alone. Weight medicates recoil and allows the shooter to view impacts and misses at distance off unstable positions. This allows them to make correct adjustments to make impacts at that given distance. Light guns move a lot and tend to be not best suited for this type of use.

I would think mine is in the 18 pound ball park. I have never weighted it but that is a guess. I would figure most guns at the matches are at least 15 pounds.

I got both my leftie MPAs from Insite. Also got my amazing Bixn Andy triggers thru them too. I think they are going to become the Cdn dealers for those triggers as well..

Insite did sell me this chassis as a favour. I think most of the MPAs that come into Canada are already spoken for. The cerakote was done by my buddy Shawn.

My other MPA, where this rifle will actually live, is coming from Bighorn Sales.
