Another stupid ELCAN question.

So I now have copies of the manual for the ECLAN scope. It looks like the scope range compensation is designed to work with 62r bullets. Does anyone have experience shooting 55gr bullets at longer range with an ELCAN? How much is the range compensation off at 200m, 300m? Thanks, BSW

It is close with 55gr Fed and Win ammo... just take it to the range and try it out.

You might also try one of the freebie ballistics toys like "PointBlank" to get some idea regarding the effect of the lighter bullet.

I got involved in checking out various rounds to use with my PE 90 + Elcan M 145 a while back and just decided to stick with 62g for the shooting I do. The Federal 62g gets good reviews for consistency etc. and military style rifles and sights seem to be designed around the 62g bullet. It depends ,as usual, on what you want to do. Expert 5.56 x 45 shooters get into lots of interesting stuff but I think you'll find anything in 62g a pretty good "utility" round, IMHO.

Normally I would agree, just shoot 62gr rounds. The problem is my wife's AR15 has a 1 in 12 twist barrel. We try to save a little by buying ammo in case lots. My 1 in 7 barrel shoots 55gr rounds fine, but hers doesn't handle 62gr rounds very well.

I was more wondering if 55gr rounds would be within a few inches out to what kind of range. I can't wait to get the scope, so I CAN go shoot it ans see for myself Thanks, all. BSW

Don't bother with the BDC anyway and go open gate, it is 1,4,5,6 clicks for 55grain ammo from 20" bbl with a 100m zero, mark your points with felt or liquid paper and go.
