I am using a Lyman reloading manual to get load data.
my question is... if you look-up a specific load, is there a rationale behind the sorting of the different powders, i.e. which powder is listed first?
for example, is there a reason why unique is first and bullseye second? while for the same cartridge, different bullet, the order is changing, and for a third bullet Bullseye might not be even listed?

thnx

Don't have that particular one, but most often they are in order of velocity for the hottest loads. I have also seen it done alphabetically or by powder manufacturer, but usually by max velocity at max safe pressure.

That's an interesting question. I just checked my Lyman book, expecting the data to be grouped my manufacturer, but this is not the case. Neither is the data grouped by velocity or powder weight. I would have to say that there is no apparent pattern to the grouping of Lyman's data.

OK, here is the answer from Lyman:
"Most of our new books list the
powders in order of burn rate, from fastest to slowest.
We also list an accuracy load in most handbooks. This is the load that gave
us the most uniform ballistics in our testing. This is generally a good
place to start. You might also look for a load that gave a higher velocity
without a top level pressure."

Hmmm -
Lyman 47th, page 281, under .30-06/180 gr data. They have AA-2520 and Reloader 19 listed below H-4831, and they have IMR-4831 below Reloader 22, so I don't think that flies.
