I went on my annual hunt in southwestern Alberta again this year with my 80 year old Father and 85 year old uncle in tow. I was fortunate to take this nice 6x5 bull at 80 yards through some trees with my M70 Supergrade in 338 Win mag 225 gr Partitions. He went 40 yards after taking the shot on the shoulder facing head on. Bullet penetrated about 4" of elk and lodged on hind quarter. excellnt performance other than some nasty wound on one shoulder. My dad was able to take a cow at 100 yds with his 7x57 140 gr partition and my uncle able to take a 160 class 5x4 mule deer with a 270. I forgot my decent camera and %^%((*%shadows make for poor pics.
I think the 338 will stay out of retirement.
