* Warning* I've been advised not to post statistics, winners, names, ranks or Units on this forum for security reasons.

So there ! Please be considerate that many of these shooters are going to be deploying to Afghanistan or other operations in the near future !! ;)

It was a hot one ! We shot all 12 Matches, 200 meter stage before Sat lunch and then matches 5-8 after lunch at the 300 meter mound. Then after supper, several teams participated in the Falling Plates match. I can't recall which team won (and I can't mention units), but I was down in the butts anyways, so I could not see anything. ;)

Sunday was tougher.... the sun came out and my perma-tan got even darker ! :D The 500m matches 9-12 were taking longer for some reason....

I even won an ORA High Possible Score (HPS) Cross for shooting a 50.4V at the Match 6 300 meter Snap. These new ORA HPS crosses are way cool !! ORA colors of blue.

So you members in 'green' .... Whaddaya think about the NEW ORA Service Rifle patches, eh ? Extra LCV (Look Cool Value) for your FMP (field message pad) cover ? :p

I hope everyone enjoyed the suspense of TimK's knife draw... for the Cold Steel SRK pig sticker. I'm even more happy that someone wearing a green uniform (won't mention which country...) will likely make good use of that knife as long as he colours the sheath in a CADPAT theme. Maybe I'd better send him to Skullboy to paint up that SRK knife.

Tim KEGetsoo is not monitoring this means so I can say anything I like behind his low-tech back, so to speak. ha ha ha ha Serves him right for not being on the Gunnutz...

For those of you who like free stuff, at DCRA's NSCC matches on 14-19 July 2006, Marstar has donated a .308 Enfield Wannabe rifle and a 9mm Norinco bangstick. Yeeeeeha ! For those of you in CADPAT outfits, ensure that you have a PAL to take possession of the said bangstick draw, or TimK and I will just test fire it (read: lap the barrels with 1000 rds...) for you while you wait for your PAL. No charge !! All part of the friendly ORA Service !!

AND (never start a sentence or paragraph with a conjuntion) if you really HATE Norinco bangsticks, you will just have to give the pistol to ME ! yuk, yuk, yuk

I'm glad we had representation from all 3 Environmental elements (Air Force, Army, Navy) there. I just cannot mention units.... The Taliban is monitoring me....

We have the Navy/NSRA Challenge match coming up on Saturday, Matches 1-8. Gonna be a gooder!

Then Sunday I head west! WOOHOO!!!

Just wait 'til you see the new spud-launcher! This one's got a tripod!

NS

Yeah NavyShooter, we stood on the verandah yesterday overlooking the cement pads that house all the modulars. We were reminiscing the sounds of the BLOOPING spud guns. CFSAC ain't CFSAC without the potato guns between the RCR's and the NAVY as they launched spuds over the Vandoos, Cdn Rangers, and PPCLI.

Those were the great ole days.

Hungry, it was a great shoot, the troops were a great bunch (and so were the civi's) :D . Thanks again for the invite :)

Hungry here: Glad to have some Quebec representation... also a CGNutter, too !

I will be conducting the Service Rifle Programme under the OSA (Operational Shooting Assoc.) for the remainder of the 2006 season.

Have a look at the "sticky'ed post" at the top of the Service Rifle Forum....

Cheers,
Barney

Svc Rifle Fun

Yes we are. There is one more Service Rifle match (1-12) happening in 23-24 Sep in Connaught. TimK and I will be running that exact match under the Operational Shooting Association banner.

Same match, same fast process as usual, different patches and awards (Tim's working on that). Same people, lots of ORA members of 2006.

What is really exciting is the Tactical Carbine Clinic and Matches coming up in Sept and October in Milcun. We know that we can plan this event to the Nth degree and really put our hearts into it knowing that we ain't gonna get bounced off the range.... EVER !

Last fall I was planning a super hilarious Fun match, just like my August Fun Match and I was told that we lost our 16 October 2005 booking to the Precision Rifle folks. For me that was the last straw... I knew that my Base Boredom and Mons Range days were winding down. Now with the new organization, range cancellations are just a distant memory.

To quote Keith, " I AM Range Control."

Trust me, C Broad Arrow, you will love the Tactical Carbine matches. We ran one in July 2005. We had several competitors turn up and by 1130 hrs, everyone had shot over 120 rounds each AND TimK had the stats completed. By 1200 noon, we were marched off the range. TimK and I were looking at each other and we said, "We have got to run more of those matches..." This match helped us prepare for the carbine stages of the Law Enforcement Games that Keith, Linda and Tim run during the 1st week of each June.

So if you can make the drive to Connaught to participate in our Matches 1-12 of NSCC on 23-24 Sep, by all means come out and join us. I know that Air Force, Navy, and Army participants just love the spread TimK puts on. Those are the ONLY (Ontario Rifle Association) matches that anybody in the Cdn Forces participate in up until June 18, 2006. Currently there are NO matches, NADA, Nil, Zippo competitions attended by anyone in the CF, being run by the ORA. Well... let me correct myself. We might (very big MIGHT) have ONE (that's stretching it....) CF member turning up to the Precision Rifle matches. With respect to CF Unit participation, there ain't none.

Hope to see you on 23-24 Sep, in Connaught.

Cheers,
Barney

Not sure if I'd be able to make those bud, but I am here in Ottawa now, and will be attending the NSCC under the DCRA banner.

We need to talk about the Tac Carbine stuff I think.

Hungry...

I think I will give some serious consideration to the Ottawa match. I really respect the way you and TimK run things. Thats what makes it worth the effort to drive the distance.

Cheers!!!!

C Broad Arrow:

The one advantage I have over many other shooters is that I was a former Res and Reg force infanteer. My DS (Directing Staff) on my Jr. Leader's Crse back in 1975 told me, "Never BS the troops."

So with that text in mind, we run the Service Rifle matches with the intention of serious training value for the Air Force, Navy, and Army teams that attend our matches. Obviously they find merit in having their personnel participate in our matches. TimK and I are up front with the troopers and tell them that we are going to PUSH the timings up and speed up the butt changes, scoring process, clean up process, yada, yada, yada.... and we still get to shoot the falling plates matches, too.

The soldiers respond very favourably and I have never felt better. They cannot stop thanking us (my head swells up) after each match we run for them. They are quick to compliment us and that cranks up the meaningfulness factor on my 5 hour drive back to Collingwood from Ottawa.

I have met nothing but fabulous and most appreciative shooters on our matches in Connaught. (more cliches coming) It's worth the drive from Central Ontario to Connaught to run a match there. Hey, even during the last match of 17-18 June 2006, Tyro (rookie) shooters were thanking me in the butts for the honest (also humourous) treatment I extended to everyone. Yes, I did have to put on my MCpl voice in gear and yell at them, but after explaining my concern to get them into the mess hall sooner, they did not mind the increased intensity in my "target raising/lowering" commands.

We all work well together, I guess that's the wonderful part about our relationship with the Military.

Cheers,
Barney

NavyShooter:

Anytime you need some information on the OSA's Tactical Carbine matches, let me know. I'll also put you in touch with TimK.

Who knows what we can bring to Connaught?

The TacCarbine matches are all designed to shoot inside 100 meters which is right up the CQB's alley. Perfect for what you Navy teams were telling me you need for your boarding parties' training and operations.

After all, that is our mandate, modern & evolving style of shooting that will get your sailors back to the ship in one piece.

I know with your background, you can take these matches and run them in Nova Scotia. All you need is 2 x Fig 11's for each shooter and you are off to the carbine matches. We will be shooting snap, rapid and advancing positions in these matches after zeroing 10 shots (on your own time) at 100 meters.

Positions ? Tactical and practical of course.... Standing, kneeling or squating, sitting. Does this sound like the CFSAC or NSCC or Matches 1-12 ? Sure does, that's exactly the way TimK and Keith designed it/them. We want to ensure (fancy words warning) transfer of training skills.

Fight like you train and train like you fight (uhm, compete, I mean.)

It's too bad that I'm off to Italy, or Tuscany rather for 16-31 July this summer. I'm gonna miss you MARLANT fellas. You guys always bring the most colourful (personalities, I mean) shooters to the NSCC matches. I'm gonna miss you guys for another year. Darn!

Cheers,
Barney

Barney,

You going to be around next week?

Not sure how close to collingwood I'm going to get, but I'm going to be wandering through southern ON headed for Toronto, Waterloo and Windsor.

NS

NavyShooter:

I'm headed for Shawville, QC which is right across the river from Renfrew, ON. I'll be there on Fri evening for my annual "Earth Pig Hunt in Quebec". We'll be shooting on Sat and Sun.

My son (16) has a downhill mtn bike race at Camp Fortune, Parc Gatineau, just outside Hull, you know, Meech Lake area. He will be practicing on Sat and then racing on Sun. My wife will be with him. I'll be on foot (I'm a grunt) all Sat hunting earth pigs.

I'll be back in Collingwood area on Monday afternoonish. I'll be here in Collingwood all week long. Might get out and get a few rounds of golf in during the day and more hunting by night.

We can sit down and go over the crse of fire for a potential carbine match in NS with your club(s).

Cheers,
Barney
