We've already got this posted over at milsurps.com, but I tought a cross-post was in order as most guys will never see another one of these.

There's a Nazi Volkssturm VG-1 on gunbroker right now. It IS a live auction, which I know we are not supposed to link to, but this gun will sell for more than a new car by the time the auction's over anyhow, so I doubt my posting it here will affect the price in any way.

Enjoy the pics while they stay up. I've never seen one of these in person, and I doubt most of you ever will either ;)

Indeed. Over the last few years, Hermann Historica in Munich has sold a few VG firearms at auction. The last one was a MP3008 (functional). Two years ago there was a VK98 and a VG1; auction estimates were in the US10 000 range; I never did check to see what the actual realized prices were.
The publication of Darrin Weaver's book, "Desperate Measures", has made more collectors aware of these extremely rare firearms.
It will be interesting to see how the bidding goes.
Incidentally, the VG1 rifles coded "ng" are believed to have been manufactured by a Walther plant inside a concentration camp. Walther was well connected within the NSDAP.

Yeah, they did. ALOt of VG rifles had adapted MG81 or MG15 barrels. Apparently there was lots of them left unused in the dying days of the war, so they found a use for them :)

Apparently the Luftwaffe had some 230 000 mg barrels on hand. They had no use for them, so some of the barrels were used in the VG program. These barrels were of very high quality; ironic that some wound up in rifles like this one. Of course, relatively few VG rifles were actually manufactured.
