Ok,
I'm addicted to collecting firearms. I'm not sure what happened but I've come to terms with it.

I've been looking over the HK SL8-4 lately and liked it except of the cracking receiver problem, which pretty much means I won't get one.

Now the Black special PE90 Target edition has my interest. The test targets however are all at 300 metres and in metric. How accurate are these rifles at 100 yards in real world with a very good scope? IE MOA designation? .5 moa? 1 Moa?

I handled the above model at a gun store and was very impressed. On web site pictures it looks like stamped metal, in reality it feels and looks well made. The ballance was even good. The trigger guard flipping out of the way was a very cool design feature. Basically it appears to be a very well thought out and made rifle. The cost is high, but I think I might go for one. On the lay away plan at least.

So: accuracy? How is it? Would you recommend this rifle and why? I'll eventually be getting a Les Bauer AR-15 so it's not a PE90 or AR debate.
Thanks for any help. By the way any negative stuff would be good too. In fact negatives at this point would probably be more usefull.

Thanks for any help.

So far... Initial sticker shock and the fact my brass is mangled beyond re-use are my only real complaints. I also didn't care for the stock length (too short for me) so I changed that. They can print sub-moa @ 100m, but not sure if this is consistant.

I shot Speckfire's PE90 with an acog this week. SWEET rifle! Now I'm going to have to get a CQB and a PE90

I'd say with a proper target scope, you could probably get at least MOA out of it.

...PE90/SG550/Stg90 accuracy....

...the test target on my PE90 measures 3 and 1/8 inches (about 1.1 moa) with 10 shots and was certified by Swiss Arms technician Mr. J. Oetiker (pronounced "er-ting-grr")...you will never get a better test target than that with any AR-15...period

I don't know about that Steve. The Les Bauer AR-15 Super varmint guarantees less than .5 moa at 100 yards. Reports with high end match and or reloading have had .25 moa targets. But... that's not at 300 metres. AR-10s are often at .5 moa as well. I don't know how much it opens up at 300 metres though.

Either way I went into the gun shop today and ordered the Black special target model. Looks like I'll be waiting even longer to get scopes for my other rifles.

Don't forget that the Black Special is a civilian version of a service rifle. Les Bauer makes highly customized precision rigs for the 3-gun crowd. Try comparing the Les Baer to the SG 550 Sniper..

Ya thanks Scully. Everybody likes having a typo brought to light. Anything important to add to the conversation?

Actually the Les Baer AR-15 Super varmint is about $500 cheaper. However it is restricted. It's next on my list.

Note that the test target was shot using standard Swiss GP90 ammo. Hand loads properly done will do better. ( GP90 is damned good stuff though)

The "RUAG" ammo is what you're looking for. Designed for them.
TSE sells it.

Like most quality products it's not cheap. I've never used it and can't comment.

Is the "RUAG" ammo match grade?
That is one of the concerns I have with this rifle. The fact that it wasn't designed for .223 Civilian match grade ammo.

I'm also curious if anyone has fired match grade .223 ammo in theirs and the results. I understand this isn't a thick bull barrel target rifle. But still I've heard it's very accurate. I'm just wondering how accurate "very" is. Yes I know it's inbetween fairly and extremely :).

Thanks again for any help.

Scully, sorry I wasn't very diplomatic with that last post.

...I've never seen a Les Baer AR-15 with a signed, paper, 300 meter test target!!....has anyone else ever seen one??........
