ok been pondering a new piece of glass

i currently have a elite 420 6-24 mildot on my rem 700 vls .308

the two things that really irk me about it are lack of adjustment and the damn mini turrets

it currently sits on a 15 moa base so that gives me about 28 moa of drop capacity(roughly)

i am looking at (so far)
65-4305T
--has 50moa with base i get 40 moa of adjustment which with my load should be good for 1000 yards(1144 fps still)
-- great zoom range and 30 power to boot
--allot cheaper
--retical not on first plane
-- mils are not mils except at 10 power, but i guess i get 1/3 mils at 30
--Does not have TMR, which looks nice but is it? given above?

Mark 4 8.5-25x50mm ER/T M1 Front Focal

-- front focal, mils stay mils
-- better glass?
--70 MOA, gives me 1150yds but my loads will be at 972 fps by then, so is this really usefull?
--lower mag at 25 x
--costs allot more

any other thought / comment on above questions or other recomendations

yes they all are the tmr ret . i use it when shooting in the field . i guess it comes down to how much they have gone up i bought all three of mine last year and didnt pay over 1500 for any of them .

local prices from one store are
Mark 4 8.5-25x50mm ER/T M1 Front Focal TMR 2500 ish
and for L/R 2000 ish, thats 1000-1500 more than the 6500

The nice part about front focal plane scopes is being able to spot and adjust off your reticle to correct your shots, at $2500 and with a mil reticle and moa adjustments I would skip on the mk4.

If thats the dollars your thinking of spending I would be looking into Nightforce or Scmidt+Bender.

I just shot 600 yards at the Kingston Military range with a Bushnell 6500 4.5-30 MD. ORA practice. Base is a Near 20 MOA SS. My scope is zeroed at 100 and I used 14 Minutes elevation to bring me on at 600 Yards. I found at that range I was using 20X most of the time, as the mirage and focus was not as good at the higher levels. My 147 Grain FMJ's were entering the Vbull or just outside of it on a regular basis. I was quite impressed with my Bushnell. I would advise to go with the Tatical 6500 with the hash marks. It's a great scope for the money. ($800 is what I paid.)
