Hi, I picked up this Indonesian enfield over the summer and I am needing to update my home insurance value lists.

Any idea on what a good value would be to put on this, I guess realistic selling value as well as replacement value. I figure the way my policy has been I would probably get something in the middle. It is matching, even the the bolt isn't marked in the indonesian writing it is matched to the stock and the rear sight which were not scrubbed.

I am not sure to hold onto this one or not as I'm in the process of raising funds for a friend who just passed upright bass that I always loved and raising $35 k within a year is a real pain in the butt.

the bore is frosted but sharp, it shoots well, I was really shocked to find a decent bore on an Indonesian

MOST guys are plain shocked to see ANY Indonesian SMLE.

In 50 years at this, this is the FOURTH I have seen.

I don't think they are what one would call "common".

If it were lost, I rather doubt the insurance company could possibly locate a replacement much under a grand.

Unfortunately, rare does not mean valuable. The two I have seen here sold for $5-600.

FWIW, I scooped a really, really nice one from a fellow CGN for right around $500.

FWIW, I'm not a fan of these, the workmanship is generally not up to a British-made rifle. I'd value it about the same as a decent Ishapore. You'd have to be a hardcore Enfield collector to even want one.

The jury is out on where the receivers came from, but the small parts are clearly not. Look at the safety on that rifle to see what I mean.

If they are scrubbed commonwealth guns, they are Ishapores then. The stock wood and receiver characteristics are distinctly akin to Indian production.

I am pretty sure those were the 1920s BSA contract for Siam.

The value is supply and demand. The collective wisdom says there are very few in Canada. If your insurance policy is replacement value, I'd over estimate up to $1000. Let the adjuster find a better excuse than the knowledge of 100,000 shooters, collectors and hunters.

If my Insurer asked me for valuations on, and thereby details of, my firearms, I'd replace them - the insurer, not the firearms.

Indonesian 303 rifles

I have a No.5 jungle carbine that is fitted to a No.4 barrel that has had the fore end cut to a sporter but is restoreable. Both the barrel and action are Indo marked to calibre 7.7mm. I am going to be posting this up on the EE shortly, probably around $250

Also have 2 real nice Indonesian issued and plated P14's, a Winchester and a Eddystone fatboy that will be also going up on the EE for between $450 and $550. I am down sizing my 303 collection and these indo's dont hold any real interest anymore.
