Another whats it worth ?

I have a winchester model 70 in 416 remington that i am thinking about selling.

I am just wondering what it might be worth ballpark.

Winchester model 70 it was the last one in alberta when winchester stopped making them back in 2005/6. I think that was the year.

This rifle has been bedded and had the triger worked on. Not that makes much difference to the price.

It is in good condition but is not a safe queen. I have hunted with it a fair bit and it has made 1 trip to africa. So there are some scratches on the wood.

I am just trying to get an idea what it might be worth and if it is worth selling? Or do I just keep it and just play around with it.

In addition to the condition, the value is also governed by what grade it is. The 416 Rem. caliber came out in at least seven different grades. As a starting point example, from the 31st edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values, a

• Classic Custom African Express, $4575.oo - 100% to $1325.oo - 60%
• Classic Sporter Super Express Mag., $1250.oo - 100% to $450.oo - 60%

There's a wide variety of prices in between. Another somewhat factor governing the value is the known reputation of the smith who did the work on it.
The scope and rings, a local dealer estimates the value around $450.oo - $500.oo for the scope and $100.oo for the rings & bases.

It's a tough one. The rifle is very specialized and a new one can be had for around $1200. I had a .416 RM in a Remington Custom Classic. I had EAW quick detach mounts on it and a 1" decelerator. I wish I never sold it because, unless someone wants to get rid of one (and there aren't many out there) I will never be able to find another for the price I sold it for.

My advice - unless you need the money, just keep it.

Update:
I have a model 70 Winchester Super Express in 485 WM, with a scope one down from yours, a 1X4 Vari-X II, and a different mount set-up. I would 'estimate' the value of the package to be in the vacinity of $1650.oo

I think you should keep it and play with it.
