I was asked to start one. So here it is...

It's not a variant of anything despite it's safety...so don't go there.

The Type 79 (Chinese: 1979年式衝鋒槍; pinyin: 1979 Niánshì Chōngfēng Qiāng; literally "1979 Year Type Submachine Gun") but more commonly known (Chinese: 79式衝鋒槍; pinyin: 79 Shì Chōngfēng Qiāng; literally "79 Type Submachine Gun") as the is the first generation indigenous submachine guns used by the Chinese military, security, and police forces. The submachine gun was type classified in 1979 and entered mass production in 1983.

The Design type of Type-79 submachine gun was completed in 1979. The production model was completed in 1983. From the 1981 pilot production, the total production of 79 was nearly 200,000 until 1992. The highest years of production were between 1988 and 1991. During that period the Type 79 was produced at a rate of more than 30,000 per year. Generally firearms take between five and seven years to develop with a typical staff of between four and ten people. The developmental period of Type 79 was 15 years with a staff of over 70 people[citation needed].

The Type 79 is widely equipped by the PLAAF, scout and special operation units, as well as the People's Armed Police (PAP) and the Police Services.

The Type 79 fires 7.62 millimeter caliber steel-cored pistol bullets. It accepts a 20-round magazine and has an effective range of 200 meters.

A gas-operated, rotating bolt SMG? If it could be imported and registered as both a rifle and a pistol (pistol w/o folding stock) we could have 10rnd mags (made for the pistol) but have a cute little plinker to make non-restricted (and possibly even uglier) and go whack gophers with 7.62X25

I would pay good money for it, if it was an available option in say Non-restricted. Hell, as long as importable, and it has the feel of the Kalashnikov design with an AK style look its good enough for me.

You did it...HA LOL!!!

Ok for the nay sayers....why would this be useless? 7.62x25 is a very hot round (not to mention very cheap). It wil easily fill the intended purpose of short barrelled 5.56 for a CQB application...with a much cheaper round. I'm not so sure about over penetration beng an issue but I'll have to do some more digging. I would rather have an SMG in 7.62x25 than in 9mm any day. I'm sure it would be a reliable and fun little gun...and reasonably priced given it's origin. Also, if imported properly (pistol version first please) we would have access to ten round mags.

THANKS DECKARD!!!!
