Another 'would you consider importing' thread: Chicom SMG

I'd love to go gopher'n with a non-restricted model.

The Chinese could easily make a semi version. The receiver is a box shaped sheet metal. Its shape is so basic, no angles. That is also why it is not an AK. If anything it looks like a stamped 58. They could stamp that out and weld it up no problem. But if I was John, I'd have them put in a newly shaped safety. It's the only thing that looks AKish, even though it is not an AK part. Sometimes people see what they want to see.

I bet they never throw out their old tooling, so if the market was there, they soon could again.
I agree, but Canada may not be able to meet the necessary demand. To restart a plant in China generally requires an order of about 10k guns in my experience. Especially for a stamped gun. We have looked at importing several common Chinese guns as NR only to be told our very large orders are too small for it to be considered given the guns are not currently made. The Chinese small arms industry is nowhere near the size it was in the 80's, early 90's. Most of the factories have consolidated. I will check with Norinco and see what they say.

And that is where your talents as a salesman come in!
You have to convince 10,000 shooters they HAVE to have one.:D

But really, that is why I put in the line about "if the market is there"
I know they would not fire up a plant for 600 guns.

Would a change from a folding stock to a fixxed stock make it NR? What's the barrel length & OAL?

I'm not fond of the looks of them. But the ammo seems cheap, and they look like fun.

VZ 58 is surplus parts with modified components I believe...perhaps they could do the same....

As far as the CFC is concerned, and AFAIK they use new receivers.

Yeah - I guess they would have to be...I didn't quite think that through...so maybe they will stamp up a new receiver and thik up a new fire control system and we'll be good to go...seems like there is a lot of interest.
