Heading out tommorrow with my son for four days of moose hunting. This will be the year for him to take his first moose. A meat bull would be just right. I don't need him to get a monster this year and spoil him for the rest of his life. He is packing the old faithful 30-06 and I will be backing him up with the .375. Will have caribou, black and grizzly bear tags just in case but the focus will be moose. Wish us luck and I will post pictures when we get back.

Yes we are back... but no skinning to do here. Saw two cows and a third that could have been a bull but was running into thick bush and couldn't call him back. Edned up with about a dozen grouse to show for our efforts.

The real funny thing about this trip was my son was REALLY bummed out about not getting a moose. The last two major hunts he has been with me on we have been sucessful and got moose. This is the first time he has been on an extended hunt (morre than just a day trip) that we have not got anything. It kinda of hit me out of left field and had to explain hunting instead of gathering to him. All I could do to not break out and laugh. He understands a little better now and want to take next week off of school to come with me on the next hunt. Not a chance.

Work until Sunday then out again on Monday for 5 days. Will report some time after I get back.

Smokey, I came back mooseless from my Yukon hunt up around Keno City, but we had a successful hunt! And we did not even SEE or shoot a grouse...

Good on you for helping your son to understand that a punched tag is not the only measure of a successful hunt! Of course, I lived through the drought years of central Ontario hunt camps, where even finding a set of tracks or a pile of fresh #### was great cause for celebration. Years went by with no deers being shot in many camps, but they were still great hunts!

Well good to hear you had a great time.:D I also think that this might be the best hunting lesson he could have had. I can't remember all the trips I have been on and came home with my tag only. Unsuccessful always outweighs successful. Hopefully you have good luck next week.
I am off today for a week of archery moose here in Sask. I will certainly report my hunt at the end of next week(or hopefully tomorrow night;) )

Good on ya for hunting with your boy!!!
