Anschütz vs cooper

With cabin fever setting in I’ve been thinking about my firearms and have found myself lusting for a higher end rimfire. Anschutz 1710 and cooper custom classic are the two that stand out in my mind. The Anschutz is less money, but I suspect it would outshoot the cooper on average. The cooper on the other hand is ###ier - at least on the computer screen.

So for those of you with one or both, which would you suggest and why?

Take the Anschutz!

Exactly, here is mine with a buddy.

Anschutz. Proven design and barrels time after time. Look at it this way, Coopers are great looking rifles, but have not won many competitions. Anschutz on the other hand.... decent looking, but perform in spades. When in company of other rimfire people, Anschutz/Walther/TOZ/Feinwekenbau/Bleiker commands a certain amount of respect. Cooper, not so much.

I have yet to outgrow/outshoot my Anschutz or Walther Rifles.

Anschutz 1710 over the Cooper. The action just feels better to me. I’ve had both. The Cooper looks severely attractive but the anschutz action just seems nicer to me. Makes me want to get one again. The 1710 dkl also looks interesting to me

You have to really desire the specific attributes of the the Cooper to pick it over the 1710. The 57M CC is nicer aesthetically with beautiful fleur-wrap checkering, an ebony fore end, high gloss deep blue steel, highly figured wood, and a substantial bolt handle as opposed to the somewhat anemic "bent steel rod" on the 1710. This all comes at a price though, with the Cooper starting at about $1300 more than the 1710, and going up from there depending on options.

Can you justify a Cooper based on the accuracy it provides? No, though it is no slouch with it's match grade Wilson barrel. Could it very well be your ultimate small game rifle? Yes. Mine wears a 3-9X scope, so I'm not going to be wringing the last thousandth of an inch out of it in competition anyway.

The 1710 makes far more sense in almost all ways, but if you simply must have a Cooper, nothing else will quench that thirst.

Good advice.

I have both brands. My Cooper 57CC is beautiful, and a fine shooter. I have an Anschutz m1710 and a 1712; both have Meistergrade stocks, but not quite as impressive as the CC Cooper. But, for more precision shooting, it goes to the Anschutz. It all depends on what you are looking for and which takes priority...beauty or performance. Either are nice firearms. Call Nordic for Annie or Prophet for Cooper....Hope this helps you in your choice.

If you look at what the pricIng was in the early 2000’s for n anschutz 1710 and a Cooper you will see they are both close in price. Over time I guess with the American/Canadian $ being the way it is the coopers inflated in price while the anschutz not being an American made rifle have maybe not gone up as much. Might not mean anything to you. Just noticed it on old inter webs pages lol..

Some of it is also that Cooper realized they were spending more to make a rimfire than a centerfire and upped their prices on them about the same time the dollar fell.

I have a beautiful custom classic cooper in 22 lr. It shoots about as well as I can with SK high velocity ammo. My hunting buddy has an anschutz 1710. Some days he out shoot me, others, I out shoot him. Rifles are both extremely accurate with good ammo. I prefer the cooper but its mainly because i can't love the looks of the Anschutz. We sell both brands and you can't go wrong either way. If you are going to use bulk type ammo, buy the CZ ;)

Both are top of the line examples that can be passed down through the generations. I have been lucky enough to own several of the Anschutz models and was actively looking for a Cooper as well. I ended up going with the Anschutz models due to the availability of the shorter barrels. My 18" 1712/1727F handles much better than my previous 21" 1712. In the end I have settled on the 1727F as my keeper and am slowly selling the rest. The Anschutz can shoot amazing well. You can find some amazing wood with both manufactures. I have one on the EE right now that would be a good example of this. Looking through the selection of Coopers at Prophet River can be its own reward too! Good luck on the purchase!

1710 D KL Monte Carlo

1710 D HB Classic

1710 D TAC, Barrel thread 1/2 inch - 28 UNEF, 457 mm barrel

1712 Silhouette Sporter

Picked these off the Anschutz site and see little point of the DKL with sights. The 1710 and 1712 have extremely nice lines and are worthy of a scope that does them justice.
Between the 1710 and 1712 is a weight issue but the HB model should be more accurate.
No one has brought a Cooper to either the BR50 or the 100 Meter Rimfire Benchrest.

I prefer the classic stock, but wish it had a lighter barrel profile. I also like the forend to not be longer than half the barrel length.
