Anyone have a decent starting point for bolt torques on an Aschtz sporter? I'm just trying to get the groups a little smaller. I don't have the special wrench but I do have a very fine torue wrench.
Cheers,
Grant

If your bedding is solid and you can get a consistent torque time after time - around 30-34 inch/lbs is what I have seen quoted. You may want to refer to some of the posts on Rimfirecentral. There seems to be a number of well read Anschutz afficionadoes who monitor there.

Grant,

From past experiences with sporters, I would start at 35 inch lbs but I would not go over 45 inch lbs. What you should do, using your Anschütz prefered match ammo, is to shoot at least 5 groups (you want to have statistical evidence) at 35 inch lbs, 5 groups at 40 inch lbs and 5 and 45 inch lbs. You should see that one of the averages is better than the others.

Alright guys I'll give that a shot.
I'm currently shooting Fiocchi SV for silhouette shooting. So far it's been giving me great groups (when I do my part) out to around 50 yards (0.4-0.7") and okay groups at the 100 yard line (1.3-2"). I'm sure it's not going supersonic and I just want to tighten-up the occasional flyer that seems to wreck the 100 yard groups. For the record I have not tried any organized approach to stock torque so far, nor have I measured when torquing it.
Also I'm not shooting off a particularly good rest so thats probably part of the problem.
Thanks,
Grant

Grant,

Which model of Anschütz are you using ? If it is any variation of the 54 action, you should get much better averages than .40-.70...

It's a CIL 310 so a 64 actioned sporter. Because it's being used for Silhouette the trigger has to remain above 2.2lbs. Also I'm fairly sure I could do better with a more solid rest, but since I have no real interest in benchrest I've just been using bags.
I'm currently away from home for another month or so but I look forward to playing around with the torque when I get back,
Grant

This may sound weird but.....

It's funny but the size of many aviation fuel system fasteners (forged bolts)
are about the same size, & this is a frequently used torque [about 35 inch lb] for fuel cell access panels....:)
