Anschutz chamber so tight, is that normal?

I just got my Anschutz 1416. Cleaned and lube. And I’ve tried several brands ammo like Eley lapua rws. They are all hard to chambered. I have to chamber them with a hard push. Annie shoots well, I’m satisfied with the results but I don’t know if it’s normal like that kind of tight chamber.
If you guys have the same experience, pls let me know how to deal with it. Thank you very much.
 
I had my model 64 out on the weekend (same action...i think?) and there are brands that are more difficult to chamber than others. I was testing some Eley, Lapua, RWS, a couple of SK offerings, and CCI SV. The CCI was very tough to chamber, and I didn't remember it being an issue the last time I had the gun out. I noticed that this batch was especially waxy, I 1/2 chambered a round, then pulled it out to see wax flaky bits pushed-up on the sides a bit. I'm also mindful of how tough CCI Blazer is to chamber in my CZ 452, and I know for a fact that it's the bullet shape in that case..you really have to give 'er. lol

I think Anschutz chambers are tight as a rule, but with my 64...the Eley/Lapua/RWS/SK all run absolutely fine. Might be a question for Brad @ Nordic Marksman. (CGN sponsor, Anschutz authority)
 
That seems a little too tight. I'd like my unfired cartridge to drop free from the chamber when tilting the rifle back. Try polishing the chamber with Flitz to see if that helps.
 
guntech's observation is a very good one. Anschutz chambers are tighter than most of those on sporter rifles. If a round falls out when the rifle is tilted back then the chamber dimensions are generous. Some ammo will chamber harder than others. CCI Standard Velocity rounds are among those that are harder to chamber.

Does the OP have anything to compare the effort required for chambering? The typical Coeey, Marlin, Savage, even CZ will likely chamber with less effort than an Anschutz.
 
Thanx guys. Seems it’s Anschutz rule.
By the way, I never tried cci , tried Eley lapua and rws. For my Annie, Eley is the most difficult to chamber, but if I chambre the same cartridge 2 times or more, it works well. RWS is better than Eley but feel still tight.
 
Never owned an Anschutz, but have had two Toz35 pistols, one Toz MU55, and a Hammerli 104 - all single-shot free-pistols with Martini style actions - ALL of them required that the action cam the bullet into the rifling - more for some rounds. I almost always used CCI Green Tag or (for a brief stint) Eley Tenex... Same was true for the BSA International Martini-action .22 rifle - had to shove a cartridge in, cam it closed with the breech block, fire, and it always ejected easily. Popping an unfired round out of the chamber showed rifling on the bullet.

with tight target .22 single-shot rifle actions it appears that the bullet gets cammed into the rifling, unlike centrefire rifle rounds where you have to set a certain (and consistent) amount of jump to the rifling..

OP - is the CHAMBER tight or are you pushing the lead bullet into the lands (when you extract an unfired cartridge, are there grooves carved on the bullet)?

If a chambered unfired round will fall out of the chamber when the muzzle is lifted, the chamber is way to sloppy for accuracy. It may be fine for a semi auto but with a bolt action I want a tight chamber for best accuracy. The bullet will engage the rifling and the chamber diameter is close to case diameter. There are chambers that are tight on the rim and different makes will feel differently. Then there are chambers tight on the bullet... and different makes may feel differently.

If your case falls out when the muzzle is pointed up, you have a seriously shytey chamber...

Push hard to chamber, and enjoy the accuracy. Welcome to shooting a quality rimfire. Match chambers, such as what Anschütz cuts in their barrels, will engrave the bullet into the rifling as you close the bolt. This is what you're feeling, nothing to be concerned about.

Side note, stand up a CCI Standard beside any RWS, Eley, or Lapua round, and you'll notice that the CCI driving band is longer than the others, this is why it tends to chamber hard in a match rifle, as it engages the rifling sooner.
 
Measure the rim thickness of the rounds you find tough to chamber.
A re-sized 243 Winchester will suffice as the rim will sit in the mouth of the 243 and measure everything with a caliper.
